Hi everyone - I am new here but am starting at DNI in the night program in August. I saw some old feedback, and was wondering if anyone has some recent feedback?
TXStarr do you have Dr. *? I love her!!! DNI has changed and has EXCELLENT teachers, believe me!! I searched HI and lo before starting DNI. I am soooo enjoying myself and learning sooooooo much! I think I fell in love with nursing after my 3rd clinical. I'm gonna find you and speak TxStarr. I'm not a stalker lol, I won't tell who you are and you don't tell who I am.
Happy Nursing!
Oh and about the chewing.. Welcome to DNI lol!!! There are some things that may irritate you, but I would rather be irritated at this school than anywhere else.. Remember.... not matter what anyone else says..
READ THOSE CHAPTERS!!
Yes, Dr. * for A&P, and I love it too! I'm reading chapters, and actually absorbing it....slowly. It will take me some time to figure out how to learn this stuff, but I'm having a great time! I actually thought fundamentals was more fun & interesting. Now onto the LONGGG saturday!
I do have to say, this really seems like a great school so far. I don't think they will stand for much drama and cattyness we hear about all over, they are pretty down to business.
Hey guys,
I am at the very beginning of the enrollment process to DNI. Actually I haven't even visited the school yet. I plan to on Thursday. I came on here for advice and help on how to pass the entrance tests for the school. Are they hard? Should I purchase the Net study guide for $40? Should I even be stressing, lol? What can I expect from the enrollment process? How are you guys liking it so far? I will have to go to the night class because I work in the day. I wish you guys luck.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hm well I just took the NET and it wasn't very hard. If you want to do exam prep I would suggest just using websites online. I bought a "Nursing School Entrance Exam" prep book at Barnes and Noble because it was only $20, but since it wasn't specifically for the NET the questions were a lot harder. I felt like that was good, though, and I felt more prepared.
The math questions are around maybe 8th grade level and the reading ones aren't hard either. Percentages, fractions, decimals, multiplication, division. Maybe a couple of algebra equations and one or two geometry questions, but easy ones.
Basically you will go to the testing day and sign in. First they will give you a short free quiz called a "pre-entry" test. If you pass it, they let you go on to pay $40 and take the NET. What they told us is that if you have an easy time with the quiz then you'll likely pass the NET. Then...you go in the room, they talk more about the NET and what scores you have to get to pass (55% on each section.) It doesn't matter what you get as long as you pass, they don't rank people based on their scores.
Then you wait two or three days to get your scores in the mail. When you get them, you call the school up and make an appointment with admissions, where you fill out a ton of paperwork and write a short essay about why you want to go to nursing school and stuff. They don't judge you based on it as long as you pass, so don't worry about it. After you've done all your admissions stuff, you have to go to financial aid where you'll start that process.
To make your financial aid easier and enroll quicker, I would suggest doing your FAFSA now!! They will help you at the school if you can't figure it out by yourself, but if you get it done beforehand it'll make your admissions process a lot quicker. You have to remember to input the school code and all that (you can look it up.) After you fill out the FAFSA and sign it online, write down your Data Release Number and bring it to your appointment. Also, memorize or secretly write down your PIN because it's a pain to reset when you forget it.
The financial aid process is what's taking so long for me. it's a real pain in the butt and I'm already used to it because I've been through it twice (last year and the year before) and STILL it takes forever.
Basically, before you go to your admissions/ appointment, you should fill out your FAFSA, acquire anything you don't have. You need your Social Security card, High School Diploma/GED, BCLS CPR, yours & your parent's 2008 tax return if you're a dependant student (under 24, not married, and not a parent), your driver's license, and your immunization record. i think they do some kind of clinic to get your shots up to date if you aren't, but if you can it'd probably be better to try and do all that beforehand.
To make your financial aid process more streamlined, you should also do research on who you want to get your loans through and who has the lowest interest rates for you, so that way you already know.
Sorry for writing a novel, but I wish people had told me all this before I started, because it's going on the third week for me! There were people I took the NET with who hoped to start the class the next week, I have no idea how they got all this done in two or three days!
I signed up for the info session for tomorrow night I am like 45 mins away I wonder if it is worth the commute or should I just go to Concorde in Arlington. They only thin stopping me is the no longer do the in house pay payment plans and want a big sum upfront does anyone know and DNI do they offer a payment for the coat thats not covered by grants and loans.
I think they do a payment plan and they want a down payment of up to 500 dollars.
Well 500 and a payment plan sounds a lot better then 2500 yes they wanted 2500 they do not do in house payment plans any more all for special cases is what the FIN AID office went over with me which put a damper in my spirit but I am now looking for other options. I would love to go the PCT option and work in a hospital but it is he!! getting hired so I will be at the information session tomorrow to see if I can make the drive for a year. Have you started classes yet?
