Does anybody know how much can an LPN get for home care as a participating provider in the New York Medicaid Program in the county of Queens? I have been calling Medicaid offices in all five boroughs of NYC and nobody answers the phone, only answering machines ... have left messages but nobody calls me back ... anybody can solve this "mistery"?
Thank you!
Hello everyone, I just got my medicaid provider number today and was wondering how to go about getting cases. I called the office that issued the number and they was very rude when I asked about how to get cases. Can anyone help on how to start getting cases? I'm only working per diem now and need to work some more hours. Thx for your help in advance.
Thanks Lisa1203
can I ask where did you look for your case?
Do you work 8 or 12 hour shifts?
Are any other nurses working the case with you?
How do you get relief for time off?
I am thinking of doing this so just have a few questions hope you don't mind. You can PM
me if you like. I really want to know what I am getting into. Thanks

(I don't know how to PM) Well - you work for the family (I have a peds case) - - yes - there are other nurses on the case - we share the days (we're not there at the same time if that's what you mean)I found out about it in the PennySaver. I've seen any number of hours in a shift -4, 7, 8, 12. I've also seen private cases where you are reimbursed by an insurance company as opposed to Medicaid - but you still need an NPI#. The only hassle is calling emedny & waiting for your npi# & then applying for the medicaid provider# & waiting. If you don't end up liking it or using it you've lost nothing - it cost nothing. PS - another hassle is learning to do your 1st claim online - it's do-able by calling emedny - but it will take several phone calls to figure it all out - but once you know how to do it it's a piece of cake & will take you 2 minutes to file online. PS - 3rd hassle - obtaining a case - but once you get one it's great as long as it's a good fit. I personally found several in the PennySaver & have seen a few on craigslist. However, I've read posts by some seemingly really knowledgeable nurses who have mentioned something about calling the dept. of health to get cases (I'm only 60% sure it was the dept. of health - it could very well be some other dept. - maybe someone reading this can clarify). Good luck!
Wow, Lisa1203, first let me thank you for sharing. This was really helpful. I am literally lost in this area. I now have to see where I can find the penny saver in Queens. I also have little experience with Kids. I've dealt mostly with adults. I will see if any courses out there for peds as a refresher. Now i already have my NPI #. I was shock because i got it is less than 24 hours. I sent off my info. for the Medicaid Provider # Friday and is waiting now. I just want to get a idea how this works. In the meantime i will surf the web (Craigs List) for ads. I will keep in contact with you if I have more questions or guidance ok? Feel free to e mail me at [email protected]. Thanks so much and take care.
How do you get a medicaid case after you get your provider number? Also do you need to get a replacement if you have to take off? I have work so long with an home care agency that I really want to transition to medicaid provider. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
It all depends on the case & the family. If for a peds case - the parents can care for their child while you're away - they might - or you can get the other nurse - there may be 1 more or several more - to cover for you - OR if the family prefers to contact another nurse to cover you - that might happen. It all depends on the family.

I don't know which Lisa you are trying to contact? Lisa1203 or NurseLisa64?
I did get my NPI and Medicaid #. It took less than 3 weeks. My rate is $21.89 hr. + medically fragile. I have yet to see my pay though and I submitted on January 13th,2011.
Anyways I don't have twitter either.
As for finding cases-I found mine on Craigslist believe it or not. There are people who need help and Craigslist is a good place to find cases. I am very happy with my case! Hopefully I can find another soon.
