Hi,
I'm very curious what's the current CNA pay in your area? I just accepted a position where I make $15 on weekends and $12 base pay. I found that extremely rare since I never made that much as a CNA. In my area, the norm is $9.50 to maybe $12 as the high in Tampa Bay.
It largely depends on the cost of living in the area you live. I am paid $10.50 an hour with a weekend differential of 10% of the base pay, which is $9.50 for no experience and day shift. We could move to a city an hour away and I could be making $15 an hour and we would be struggling to pay bills, let alone put food on the table. Here, we can live somewhat comfortably and know that we are much safer and comfortable.
Gotta say, I'm glad I'm in Canada and I really wish that health care workers in the US were recognized more for their work. When working for a hospital or regional health authority we get paid 22.83. Community workers are paid...21.83 I believe. It varies when working for homes that aren't affiliated with health authorities with most being around 12.
You have to take the difference in the cost of living into account also. I believe the cost of living is slightly higher In Canada

The VA starts CNA's off at the GS-5 payscale which equates to about $15.29 an hour starting for most of the US, with additional pay for certain metropolitan areas. When you are hired you go through initial boarding by your peers, and if you're boarded higher from experience and education, you can start off at a higher step.
