I am just wondering what most of you did before this? I am a medical transcriptionist and am switching over to nursing. Do most of you already have a medical background and decided this is what you wanted? I actually think I am crazy going back to school. My husband is in medical school and I have two kids, ages 6 and 1. I feel like this is what I am supposed to do though.
Thanks:)

That sounds great. I used to work as a case manager in the government social services division. Best move I ever made!

I'm a medical transcriptionist too, have been working at home for about 15 years. My kids are 17 and 15. Plan to graduate from RN school in May. :)

I have been working out of my home for 10 years, since I was 16. My mom taught me as she was the teacher at the community college. I enjoy it, but I have hated being behind the scenes. It is glad to know there are others in that field who have switched.

WOW and here I thought I was the only MT trying to make a switch. I have been an MT for about 17 years and have wanted to pursue nursing for even longer. Do you ever get asked why you want to switch when you make a pretty decent living already? I get that a lot. :balloons: for us I say!!
I get asked it all the time because I type very fast and make about $35.00 an hour, but I just do not enjoy doing it and my heart isn't in it. I actually get phone calls from people I don't even know trying to find out how to get into the MT business. Funny thing!

Well, I transcribed medical reports and such many moons ago and would love to get back into it, so long as I could work from home.
I type a little over 100 wpm--that should count for something.....
Somebody tell me how to get back into this business while I finish school please? PM, email or in this thread....
Thanks in advance!

I was an American express customer service rep. I moved, got pregnant, got married and started nursing school. NOt necessarily in that order :chuckle:
