CT Colleges Ready to apply for 2009!!

Published

Hello, I just thought to start a thread, for support and information for the future nursing students from Connecticut area. As we all know, it's hard to get in to the program. so let's try to work together with new advisements, precautions, suggestions and support. Does anyone is ready to apply this coming spring? has anyone has taken the TEAS test? :nuke:

I have not heard anything good about Goodwin. Not that I you shouldn't apply there. I am only speaking from what I have read in these posts. I think they were all old posts though, so maybe things are different.

Good luck.

good tips on the grades and points... I am working my buns off for an A in API... right now its a low A... (93) I really hope you get into Bridgeport Hospital and dont forget to apply to cochran in yonkers, its like Bpt Hospital as its a hospital and its excelerated and night and weekend program starts this spring. The deadline is Sept 2nd or 5th.... not sure.... wait its either cochran or hopter in Mt Vernon... I am a little loopy due to coffee,... but they are both hospitals in Westchester county in New York which is right over the border from us.

Yup thanks to you I will def apply there also. But I thought the app was due in January. I'll have to make a chart or something to keep all the app dates and requirements straight.

Hey ms deannah,

Sometimes you can find the TEAS study manual in your college's library, or maybe even in your public library. Give that a try.

The nursing license is specific to the state in which it is achieved. However, once you pass the NCLEX and receive your license in one state, you simply have to complete a license application in the state you wish to work.

Anyone know what specialty they want to work in?

Thanks. Right now I have interest in ER, L&D, NICU and surgery. I figure if I get accepted to a program and learn more I can narrow it down better.

Hi, I check the posting too, and you right about the negative statement for Goodwin College. I wish someone can give us a feedback about it.

I'm a very successful Goodwin graduate. The posts you read are mostly when the program was very new. I say don't knock things til you try them.

Good luck to you all

Hello,

I took the TEAS last September and scored in the 98th percentile. I definitely recommend that you purchase the study manual and go through it a couple of times. It was a great investment for me. I was not expecting the test to have so much stuff that I had long forgotten. The manual helped refreshed those math and science concepts that I thought I would never need again. I applied and got accepted into Bridgeport Hospital and NCC's programs. I originally had decided to go to Bridgeport but due to reimburesement problems with my employer I have decided to go to NCC in the fall.

As for suggestions, I suggest you work as hard as you possibly can, study every second that you can, and try to get the best grades possible. Nursing programs have obviously become more and more competitive but that does not mean that with perseverance, dedicated persons can't get one of the very much coveted spots.

Congradulation in your acceptance!!:yeah:

I will apply this coming fall 09 to Bridgeport Nursing School. However I'm a little confused. do I have to apply to housatonic or just bridgeport Hospital program? I see the Housatonic College is not in the CT-Nursing program. my dilemma is that I have credits taken in Alabama, Florida and CT due to my husband been in active duty for 3years. does Housetonic take outside credits? it's linked to Bridgeport Program?

Thank you!

thank you foor your response! I had doubts about those last comments for Goodwin college and really appreciate your input. can you give me a brief status about their program? it's difficult to get in? I know is bit more money, but my theory is if you get your career , then is another loan but with good investment.

Thank you again:)

I don't have another program to compare it to as that is the only one I attended. Things change all the time, but for me, I got in first try. I did take all my pre-reqs there though and they went by a point scale.

Small classrooms, knew all my peers. Clinicals were at St. Francis, Children's Hosp. and my first semester was at Duncaster in Bloomfield (very nice nursing home). There were plenty more options for sites as well.

It was very tough and competitive but no waiting list. It is VERY expensive but I got loans and my employer is helping me pay back for them so that is a plus for me.

The program was very new and got criticized plenty. Their pass rate is very high now and the program is more established. (all but 1 student passed first try from my class). They are expanding to the Riverfront campus and will be offering a BSN soon.

Not too bad. Basic math/algebra, AP, Chem, reading and writing.

I bought the study guide and did all the practice tests in the back. The exam was exactly like those exams but totally different questions of course.

Remember it is times so it's wise to time yourself while practicing at home to get acquainted.

Good luck!

Hey I think its great to hear Goodwin's program is doing well now. They also told me they start there program three times per year. Is that right?
