Hi all,
Looking to apply this month for Summer 2020! Anyone else on the same boat? I am currently taking my last class so I expect to update my transcript when grades are posted mid-Decemeber. Anyone from previous cohorts had an issue with this?
I'm a little anxious about my points- I'm in the low 30s but hopefully it will be less competitive in Summer/fall!

I currently applied for the ABSN Fall 2020 Cohort at CSUSM. I was just curious, are you able to work during the program? I know on the website it isn't recommended but was curious if students were doing it in your cohort and how you are able to manage it. That is awesome that you are able to work for the campus! Is it a work-study program?
Thanks in advance! ?
Yeah, you can work during the program. Some people do it, some don't. It just depends on your comfort level with maintaining a busy schedule. If you start in Fall 2020, your first Summer will be the hardest semester since you will have Med Surg I (2 clinicals/week), Patho/Pharm I, and Mental Health (1 clinical/week) in ten weeks. My cohort had the same schedule and it was tough but I managed to work part time during the Summer. Most people start working in their final two semesters or apply for an unpaid externship at UCSD or Scripps. Or, in my case, both.
It isn't work study but the SoN sometimes hires student assistants.
Hi all! Congrats to everyone who has been admitted!
I applied for Summer 2020 too but only got my evaluation recently because of some transcript issues. I'm just a couple points above the cutoff and it sounds like my getting in for Summer is quite slim now, but wonder if someone might be able to tell me more about the classes for that first semester. I noticed a couple of them were offered as online-only courses or in the San Marcos campus in past semesters. Do you know if those would satisfy the requirements? Or must we absolutely take some in-class sessions with the rest of cohort, presumably in Temecula?
Also, for those who are admitted, I'm wondering about that health insurance requirement. Did the school give you additional information about joining their plans? Or are we expected to just look for our own on CoverCA or elsewhere?
Thanks in advance and good luck to all who are still waiting!

Okay, thank you for the heads up! When students start working in their last 2 semesters, is it as RN's or maybe CNA's? That's actually really cool! I was looking into the externships as an option to gain more exposure on the floor I am interested in. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Thank you ?

Yeah, as CNAs/PCAs. I chose to apply to an externship since the specialty I am interested in is so specific. Most people wait until their last semester when it is mandatory to do an internship/externship but I wanted the exposure like you do so I started earlier.
Hello All,
I just found this thread. I have a dilemma. I applied for Fall 2020- I was offered acceptance into Summer 2020. The San Marcos location (Fall) is better for me, but I am a little scared to decline Summer and have to go through the whole process again. Any thoughts? I have 37 points if that helps

Hi there! did you find out any info about the health insurance requirement? I am on the same boat since I have medical through my employer and I will be resigning from my place of employment.

Not beyond what's already on the website:
https://www.csusm.edu/nursing/current/orientationinfo/index.html
But that "CSU Health Link" doesn't work, nor the one in the CSUSHI website:
https://www.csusm.edu/risk/csushi.html
Maybe you have better luck.

Congrats!
The average was rather high for the Spring 2020/San Marcos cohort, but 37 is still within the range accepted. So, it sounds like you have a pretty good chance to get in even for Fall. If you are already in the area, I guess location would seem to matter a lot, but keep in mind that it might only benefit you with the didactics and not the clinicals. That starts on the 3rd semester and they can place you anywhere in both San Diego and Riverside counties, if I read correctly. So, it sounds like we all have to be prepared to go the distance (pun intended) sooner or later. Personally, this whole waiting game is just a bit unnerving for me. Plus the sooner you start, the sooner you will be done. So I would take it the first chance I get. But if you think you would have a better support system in the main campus and it doesn't bother you to wait a couple more months, it sounds like deferring could be an option too. Anyways, it's a good problem to have and hope you solve it soon. Congrats again!
Hey everyone!
Congrats to those who got accepted ? I'm really excited for you all! I do have a question...I got a 76% on my first TEAS exam (which obviously didn't give me all that many points) and I'm re-taking it soon...does anyone who got 85% and higher have any recommendations for me for studying cause apparently I didn't study correctly the first time haha. Standardized tests are kind of tough for me and every time I sit down to study I have like no clue where to start!!
