CSUSM ABSN Summer 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hi all,

Looking to apply this month for Summer 2020! Anyone else on the same boat? I am currently taking my last class so I expect to update my transcript when grades are posted mid-Decemeber. Anyone from previous cohorts had an issue with this?

I'm a little anxious about my points- I'm in the low 30s but hopefully it will be less competitive in Summer/fall!

Specializes in NICU.

I'm curious how people found the 2nd semester (NURS 300, 301, etc) - I'm completely stressing myself out and find myself crying all the time.  This has never been me.  I am a stressed out test taker sometimes, but I study hard and don't know if I am just psyching myself out and need to figure out how to learn to deal with this stress (anxiety?) so I can concentrate on studying.  I'm so confused with the Elsevier program and worried about the exams.  I feel like we're just getting started and I am completely overwhelmed.  Is this completely normal?  I'm hoping after the first few tests, I will calm down and realize that I've wanted to be a nurse for a long time and that I can handle this program.  I also feel like I started this week knowing very little about nursing (BP, etc) and that some have been CNAs, etc so they're not completely lost like I'm feeling.  I'm sure it's normal to feel a little overwhelmed and stressed out, but I'm literally crying all day every day.  Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks!

Everything you are feeling is completely normal - I had all of those same feelings. My cohort was so confused by Elsevier in the beginning, and it took a few weeks to feel like I had a handle on everything. I know it's a lot of content, but try not to worry about the tests. After the first round, you'll have a better idea of how your professors test and you'll be just fine. Use your clinical group to share tips on studying or at least commiserate on how hard this is. You're all truly in the same boat, regardless of your background. (I have zero medical experience and was very successful my second semester.) Your instinct is probably to spend all your time studying because you worked so hard to get here, but it's really important that you take time to decompress, get away from your computer and do something that makes you happy. I know this is all overwhelming, but I promise you are going to be just fine. It sounds like I'm in the cohort right before you, so if you have any questions, feel free.

Hey! I am in ABSN37, and I feel the exact same way as you but about this semester for us (Med Surg 1, PathoPharm 1, Mental Health). Summer semester is harder because its so short. For 300, 314 my advice is to focus on the powerpoints and what is discussed during lecture, don't overwhelm yourself by trying to remember every detail of the book. Do all of your assignments and stay ahead, make a plan for what you want to get done each day. Study at least a week ahead of time for the tests and don't cram. Message me if you have specific questions!

Hi! Sorry I haven't reached out sooner.  I tried private messaging you, but it won't allow me to!  I'm curious if you might be able to message me and maybe that will work. I would just like some tips and advice!

Yes of course. Message me at [email protected]

Hello- I was recently accepted to CSUSM's nursing program and also National University's nursing program. I am trying to decide which school to attend and was wondering if anyone in the program would be able to provide me with some feedback about their experience with the program so far? Pros? Cons? Thanks!
