CSUSM ABSN Summer 2016

Published

I thought I would start a thread for CSUSM's ABSN Summer 2016 Nursing Program - for anyone who's taking pre-requisites, has applied to or is in the process of applying, and for support to those who become accepted (to connect with each other). I am from ABSN Cohort 19....good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Also, I recently wrote an article https://allnurses.com/nursing-study-tips/from-one-student-1020425.html with many study tips and suggestions for nursing school. I hope you find it helpful. Please share it or leave comments!! :)

@TYHK1

I attend the Temecula campus even though I live in San Marcos. I actually find that San Marcos is a nice central location. I have had clinicals in Hemet and San Diego and I feel like this is in the middle. However students tend to make carpools from all areas of the county so you can't go terribly wrong. You will usually only attend lecture once per week anyhow, except the first couple weeks of most semesters when you are practicing skills in skills lab on campus, those first few weeks you may go there 2-3x week. I also started in summer. You usually have only Medical Ethics, Physiology of Nutrition & Culture and Medicine Healers; no clinical course work.

thank you! :) i really appreciate your help!

@Fuji11 have you receive any updates/news on your application status yet?

I called yesterday after discovering that many people on this thread have already received their evaluations. When I called in, they said that the summer cohort was already full and they are unsure why my application was never evaluated. After hearing the discouraging news, they emailed me my evaluation. I received 41 total points. I just checked the portal again now and I have been admitted!

I recommend those that have not heard yet to call in. They followed up very quickly after my phone call.

Thanks for letting everyone know! Congrats on your acceptance too :)

No, I just called and they said that the Summer is full, no real explanation for why I didn't receive my evaluation, they deemed my application and all of my materials complete on 11/04. I'm honestly upset because I was in constant contact with them and they continuously gave me the, "We're really backed up." Answer.

They said the same to me yesterday when I called in. Hopefully they will finally look at it today or tomorrow. I got my acceptance today even though they told me the cohort was full yesterday. Good luck!

Hi Fuji11,

I have been waiting for my evaluation for a while, so I emailed the Extended Learning, and they gave me the same answer of they are really backed up. Then I emailed my academic advisor to check on the status. She immediately sent me the evaluation the next day. I would suggest you to call and find out who your academic advisor is, and then you email her right away.

I hope this help. Good luck :)

Thanks guys, I'll do that, I'll update on whatever happens.

@karinsity Just wondering when did you submit your application and all of the documents?

So I finally get an email back from an advisor, stating that I am missing a Pre-Nursing Core class, Anatomy. I already took the class and had my transcripts sent to them back in October and they stated that they received ALL of my materials and completed my app on 11/04. So I now have to email them back and call back tomorrow to straighten this thing all out. My patience with this program is wearing extremely thin.

Does anyone know how quarter units work out for the anatomy & physiology courses? My school (Cal Poly, SLO) offers a 2 quarter sequence for a&p (labs are included for each), 5 quarter units each, so 10 quarter units total. I am worried that this is not enough for the semester units they ask for. These are the a&p courses pre-nursing students take at my university and the course catalog is practically the same for the suggested courses at CSUSM. Assist does not show any articulation agreements with my university. Has anyone appealed courses?

I have the same situation! I cannot use my courses at SJSU so I am hoping it is not the same case here.

Does anyone who has been admitted have a&p on quarter units or only semester?
