CSUSM ABSN Summer 2016

Published

I thought I would start a thread for CSUSM's ABSN Summer 2016 Nursing Program - for anyone who's taking pre-requisites, has applied to or is in the process of applying, and for support to those who become accepted (to connect with each other). I am from ABSN Cohort 19....good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Also, I recently wrote an article https://allnurses.com/nursing-study-tips/from-one-student-1020425.html with many study tips and suggestions for nursing school. I hope you find it helpful. Please share it or leave comments!! :)

@gina8520 Congrats!! I have questions on living too

@TYHK1 Congrats!! You should call the Extended Learning office :)

@purvee48 Thank you!! I saw your earlier post that you got accepted too! congrats! have you started finding housing?

I submitted my application last week! Hoping I can still make it for summer cycle. How long did it take you guys to hear back about acceptances after submission?

Hey @whimsicality! I think it really just depends on how busy the committee is. After you submit your app, you should expect an evaluation sheet with your total points to be sent to you first. After that, you can expect an admissions decision. For myself, I received an evaluation 10 days (October 5th) after submitting my app, but didn't get the acceptance until November 25th.

Good luck!

Hi achurley,

I just got into their ABSN program, I would like to know how do you like the program so far? Would you like to tell me a bit of your experience in the program?

Thank you! la9MFCKoIaKIlaHjVuttgx238A8l+oISTPknrAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC

@TYHK1 Thanks!! I haven't started yet

@whimsicality My application was confirmed on November 17th and I received my evaluation and acceptance on January 8th. My evaluation probably took longer than @gyp13sy due to the holidays and also the advisors were busy with the Spring 2016 cohort. Hopefully yours comes sooner :)

Congratulations on your acceptances everyone!

I just received my evaluation today with 34 points. Crossing my fingers that it will be enough to get accepted!

Hello all,

I applied to the program on 11/04/15. For the people that received evaluations, when did you all submit your applications? I'm just trying to for a timeline for when to expect mine. When I called on Tuesday they said that they were really backed up on the Summer ABSN evaluations due to being busy with the upcoming Spring 2016 class about to start.

@TYHK1

My experience has be overall positive. You do have to be willing to be very flexible. Often you will not receive your clinical placements until a few days or weeks before the semester starts and even then students may still be switched at the last moment for unknown reasons. However, from what I understand, this is not something the school has control over and I hear of this from students in other nursing schools. It can cause frustration as you can imagine when you need to schedule work, family, childcare and other arrangements and you don't know what location, day or hours your clinical will be. The schools in the area are given placements from the SD nursing consortium Welcome To The Official Website for the San Diego Nursing & Allied Health Service-Education Consortium which is not something they have control over. You could be placed anywhere in San Diego or Riverside counties for clinicals and your living location is not taken into consideration.

I have received a great deal of money in scholarships through CSUSM which has been extremely helpful, so I suggest applying by the March 6th, 2016 deadline CSUSM General Scholarship | Scholarships | Financial Aid & Scholarships | CSUSM

@angela_cee It seems competitive! Good luck!! :)

@Fuji11 I applied around the same time as you. When I called the office they said my application was confirmed complete on November 17th. I received my evaluation on January 8th, so hopefully you receive yours soon!! :)

@achurley

Thank you! I would like to know if you attend San Marcos or Temecula campus. If you attend Temecula campus, where would you recommend for housing? Thanks! :)

Have a wonderful MLK weekend!! :)

@TYHK1

I attend the Temecula campus even though I live in San Marcos. I actually find that San Marcos is a nice central location. I have had clinicals in Hemet and San Diego and I feel like this is in the middle. However students tend to make carpools from all areas of the county so you can't go terribly wrong. You will usually only attend lecture once per week anyhow, except the first couple weeks of most semesters when you are practicing skills in skills lab on campus, those first few weeks you may go there 2-3x week. I also started in summer. You usually have only Medical Ethics, Physiology of Nutrition & Culture and Medicine Healers; no clinical course work.
