CSUSM ABSN Summer 2016

Published

I thought I would start a thread for CSUSM's ABSN Summer 2016 Nursing Program - for anyone who's taking pre-requisites, has applied to or is in the process of applying, and for support to those who become accepted (to connect with each other). I am from ABSN Cohort 19....good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Also, I recently wrote an article https://allnurses.com/nursing-study-tips/from-one-student-1020425.html with many study tips and suggestions for nursing school. I hope you find it helpful. Please share it or leave comments!! :)

@Sav768 have you had any problems with transferring quarter units for any other programs? I'm getting worried now about other programs! I actually tried to PM you, but I haven't posted enough to be able to PM people yet

So far, only SJSU. But I am still waiting to hear back from many other state schools. The issue is that 5 quarter units is less than 4 semester units. But there isn't anything else I can do since my university doesn't offer a&p for more than 5 units each. I would have to retake them at community college. I have applied to many private schools and out of state schools and it has not been an issue. Have you run into any issues?

Same, I totally agree. I really don't want to have to retake them either when I worked hard in those classes and an entire year is alot of time just for those classes..especially when I've already taken them :( I've only applied to a few schools as of now, but I never really looked into the unit issues until this program cause the others don't state that they need to be semester units. But now I'm worried it'll be an issue for other programs.. Do you mind letting me know which programs you applied to and you didn't have any issues with?

angela_cee I don't remember the exact month I applied, but I originally applied for Spring 2015 admission.

Since I did not complete physiology yet at the time of application, my application was pushed to Summer 2015.

I'm also admitted to the Su16 cohort. I got the notification sometime in November I think, having completed everything in august/september.

For all those not admitted into Summer yet...don't loose all hope. I was asked to join the summer cohort (along with 3 other students) the day classes started and joined everyone on day 2. Sometimes people can't pay the fees for school or they get excepted into abother school that was their first choice.

@achurley what is the total cost of the program for 2 years?

@achurley what is the total cost of the program for 2 years?

Approximately $4-,5,000 the 1st semester and $8-9,000 for the following 5 semesters. Not including other costs: uniforms, stethescope, books, ATI 'nurse in a box" access ($1,100), health insurance, skills tote ($200), background checks and immunization tracking access, living & transportation costs.

@achurley Thank you for letting us know that. I am still crossing my fingers that I can get into the summer cohort. The advisor said I have competitive points but students that applied by the priority deadline before November got first choice. I couldn't finish by application by then because I had a prerequisite still in progress and just finished it in December. Still hoping there will be some open seats some time soon..

Thus far, I have heard back from three private schools. They accepted my quarter units. I have not heard back from any others yet, but will keep you posted. I was admitted to Emory, Drexel and George Washington. They are pretty costly unfortunately. How about you?

Specializes in Anesthesia.

Hey all. Just received my evaluation although my BS degree has not conferred yet. I received 33 points since I retook a couple classes and they averaged out the grades (3.32 Prerq GPA, 3.95 last 60, 89.3 TEAS). All you accepted folks, what point total got you admitted? Looks like my application will be pushed until Fall as my degree will not confer until March.

Congrats on your admittances :) I'm still waiting on programs (both in CA & out of state) since I just turned in their applications and I have some due by next month. I talked to my academic advisor and she said my classes for A&P seemed fine, but I would know for sure once I receive my evaluation. I also talked to someone else and he said they care more about content and just because we went to a quarter system school doesn't mean they won't accept it. So it sounds like we will be okay! (hopefully haha).
