Hi all, anyone planning on applying to CSUSM's ABSN for Fall of 2021?
I think my overall points are between 40-41, do you think it's a safe score? I was wondering if I should take the TEAS exam again, I got 80.7, but I'm completely exhausted. I completed all the 8 prerequisites courses and TEAS in only 12 months and I need some rest, LOL
Here's the list of clinical sites
https://www.CSUSM.edu/nursing/community/partnerships.html
The only site that we are all required to go to is Rady's Children's Hospital for the ped rotation. Everything else they said they go based off your zip code and make their best effort to match you with a site that is reasonable to where you live. For example if you live in Chula Vista it is unlikely you will be going to a site in Temecula (although not impossible), as there are many hospital options in the South Bay.
As far as not moving, I imagine that for the first term with no clinicals you could stay in LA county, however, you are probably going to want to move later. With a start time of 6:30am for a clinical that would be a brutal drive or train ride to get to.
@sdougie90 @redivy thank you so much for sharing the info! Are you guys from the nearby cities to the school or some of the hospitals?
Wow, I recognize only some of the cities/hospitals. I had also checked the posts from the previous years, but they were skeptical if the school actually uses the zip code. They were basically suggesting that your clinical sties can be placed all over no matter where you live and that you should be prepared for that. This doesn't really help me to decide where to even move.
If you don't mind me asking another question, does anyone know whether we could get a subsidized loan? Taking an unsubsidized loan with this unstable economy scares me a bit.

Hey there. So I live in East County which means just getting to campus for any in-person classes will be a drive of about an hour (without traffic). I know someone who lives nearby who is starting her 3 term right now and thus far her clinical sites have been all reasonable to drive. Last term she was in Encinitas which like campus is about 45 min. If fall ends up online like everyone is suggesting then you have a little time, to figure out where to be. By cost and being centered near a lot of the sites I'd suggest anything around Miramar - with the exception of anything in Riverside County you'd be about 30 minutes for the hospital sites.
Because the Summer term is Temecula based I'd imagine that most of the Riverside sites are given to those folks. When I asked the question of about the sites they told me they do try very hard to keep you within a reasonable location to where you live - the exception being Rady's. So I guess I wouldn't stress too much just yet.
On your other question my FAFSA award gave me both subsidized and unsubsidized. I believe how much you're able to be awarded has to do with how much you used up doing your first bachelors.
Hello everyone! Congratulations to those who have been admitted, and good luck to those who are still waiting! A little bit about me, I am a female who currently reside in LA but planning on moving back closer to campus to make the commute easier cuz mann it was horrible! And yes, I am from a different cohort! But anyways, looking forward to hearing back from some of you! Thanks! ♥️
@No_kiddo_5982 I live in Oceanside right now and plan to drive to classes from there. It’s just under 40 mins to campus on a good day with no traffic. I’m in north SD, so If they send me to the south SD for clinicals it would suck but gonna tough it out with super early morning starts. If it’s around La Jolla it will take me about an hour if I avoid traffic hour.
If you’re looking for somewhere that is similar distance from all clinicals I would suggest to live in areas like University City or Mira Mesa. I used to live in both of those areas and they’re pretty good for all around SD county access. You will have to just prepare to drive more or less an hour everywhere you go! But that’s just California life I guess LOL. I personally would not recommend commuting from LA.
As for student loans I’m sorry I still need to look into it too!
I heard back from FAFSA, and I'm not getting any subsidized loan even though this is my very first time applying for FAFSA. I had expected that I was going to get some unsub loan, but not getting any sub loan is a deal breaker for me. I have a few days left to decide, but I'm leaning towards taking the ADN route even though it takes longer to get BSN. Thank you so so much for all the info and wish you best luck to your nursing journey @redivy @sdougie90!!

Thank you so much!! I appreciate your reply! just to confirm, it is only the application through cal state apply - there is no other supplemental nursing application? thank you!
Hi all,
I decided to compile some CSUSM point stats from this forum for Fall 2021 applications (for anyone looking for some indication). These are the points accepted applicants had (please note- some chose not to accept the offer):
-50, 49, 41 (x2), 44, 45(x3), 38 (=Total of 9 students participating in this forum). This is about 15% of the 60 applicants per cohort.
Because Summer 2021 cohort had AVR overall points of 39.27 (range 34-47), I believe AVR for Fall'21 will be even higher.
Very competitive indeed.

@Paws Thank you! I had 38 points on the evaluation!
@No_kiddo_5982 I haven't heard anything about exact locations for this cohort but from the past threads I have looked at, places mentioned were La Jolla and also Hemet as one of them. Maybe they change them around every year too? If I find out soon I will post them here.
