CSUSB Fall 2013 Applicants

Published

Hi all! I'm a bit surprised I couldn't find a thread already started on this, so I finally decided to join AllNurses and start it myself :)

As many may have discovered by now, the prerequisites for CSU San Bernardino's nursing program have changed:

1. BIOL 220 (Microbiology)

2. BIOL 223 (Anatomy & Physiology I)

3. BIOL 224 (Anatomy & Physiology II)

4. CHEM 205 (Fundamentals of Chemistry: General Chemistry)

5. COMM 120 or Hon 104C 9Oral Communication)

6. CRITICAL THINKING

7. ENG 107, 104a, 104b, or 106 (Freshman Composition)

8. MATH 115 (Ideas of Math)

As such, I felt as if I couldn't look to previous average acceptance scores and GPAs to measure the probability I'll be accepted.

This thread is for anyone who has applied for Fall 2013 (let's share the anxiety of waiting for letters, lol), anyone who has questions about applying to CSUSB's BSN program in general, or anyone who has been accepted and would be so kind as to offer advice (please?).

Thanks in advance, and good luck to all!

hello nj892

sorry for the late reply, but from what I remember, orientation is usually around the end of july or early august and is USUALLY held on the weekends. I'm not quite sure how they are doing it this time around but I will be volunteering during orientation so as soon as I get more information I will let you know!

Hi am90, Thank you so much for getting back to me. This helps me a lot! A few days ago, I went ahead and arranged it with the hope that I am able to get away for that weekend. I'm sure it'll be fine... I'll just wait and see. & yes, please still let know when you find out any info. :) I appreciate it! Thanks again!

Hi all! Hope everyone is doing well.

Quick question for am90 -- do you recommend we do anything in particular over the summer? More specifically, is there anything we should review, summer classes we might want to take, or certifications to make sure are up to date (i.e. CPR)?

I've applied to Riverside Community Hospital's COPE internship program and am currently looking into any convalescent homes or clinics where I can spend the summer as a volunteer, but nothing so far.

@nj892

Hey! super sorry for the hiatus, I've been busy with school. Hope you are doing well! Still haven't gotten much info on orientation, but I promise I will try to find out as much info as I can and pass it on to you!

@Jasmic

Hello! my main advise is to just really enjoy summer and the time to relax and be with family and friends because once you start the program, it will be super intense and you probably will be going MIA (from my experience). You will need an up to date CPR course (basic life support). CSUSB usually holds CPR classes during the summer & you will probably hear more about it at orientation. Hope all is well! and btw, my friend does the COPE internship program for queen of the valley and she loves it! I was trying to apply too but I can't make the orientation dates :(

am90,

No worries! Thanks you, and I hope you're also doing well! :)) Thanks so much! I appreciate you keeping an eye out for the info!

@amr90: Thank you for your answer! I'm glad I didn't sign up for any CPR classes then -- you really saved me money there. As for COPE, I haven't received an interview or rejection yet. But their application period ends at the end of the month so hopefully I hear something; it sounds like a great hands-on experience. Plus I can't seem to find any other hospitals or convalescent homes that are accepting volunteers.

By the way, I overheard some people in my bio lab talking about the nursing program and about how some applicants that had 4.0 GPAs were still rejected. Have you heard anything like that? It made me somewhat panicked, but I just hoped it was because they had an extremely low TEAS score or something and that the point system is still the top predictor of who will be accepted :unsure:

Hi All - I'm a new student to CSUSB and only intend on going to the school if I'm accepted to the nursing program. Based on the points I'm sitting at 39 and am not sure that it's enough to get in - time will tell. Will any of you have the opportunity to take a picture of the acceptance list they'll post in early July and post it here? Like all of you I'm trying my best to relax and wait... I wish I hadn't gotten those couple of B's so I could feel a little more secure about getting in.

@Jasmic The cpr class held in CSUSB is going to be August 8, 8am-11am and its $35 includes book. They will talk about it more during orientation! I heard the same for COPE. My friend loves it! She gets to do so many things! If you have a good gpa and a pretty good teas score you should be okay..

Good luck to everyone studying for finals! Let's power through until the end ~

@Hopeful4it: Welcome! I plan on taking a picture of the list, don't worry. I know exactly how you feel about B's, but it's all we can do right now to hope for the best. I recommend retaking a class or two this summer or fall if things don't work out the way you plan. Did you apply anywhere else or just CSUSB?

@am90: Thanks so much for the CPR info! Definitely cheaper than any other class I've found. I also went to a Red Cross volunteer orientation yesterday, so if COPE falls through, I still plan on getting involved.

Great info. on the CPR class! I will definitely be going to that if accepted!

@ Hopeful4it, Hi and welcome!! :) I was also hoping someone would be able to post a picture, or list off the names of people accepted. & Thanks to Jasmic, it looks like that will happen! Though we may end up having to do that through e-mail... I don't think we are allowed to post the list on here. (Due to privacy issues.) That's what I saw on other threads anyway... Either way, I live too far to physically go look at the list. We will figure something out!

Hi I'm new here as well. Will a tentative ranking be revealed before July? Such a long wait!
