CSUSB Fall 2013 Applicants

Published

Hi all! I'm a bit surprised I couldn't find a thread already started on this, so I finally decided to join AllNurses and start it myself :)

As many may have discovered by now, the prerequisites for CSU San Bernardino's nursing program have changed:

1. BIOL 220 (Microbiology)

2. BIOL 223 (Anatomy & Physiology I)

3. BIOL 224 (Anatomy & Physiology II)

4. CHEM 205 (Fundamentals of Chemistry: General Chemistry)

5. COMM 120 or Hon 104C 9Oral Communication)

6. CRITICAL THINKING

7. ENG 107, 104a, 104b, or 106 (Freshman Composition)

8. MATH 115 (Ideas of Math)

As such, I felt as if I couldn't look to previous average acceptance scores and GPAs to measure the probability I'll be accepted.

This thread is for anyone who has applied for Fall 2013 (let's share the anxiety of waiting for letters, lol), anyone who has questions about applying to CSUSB's BSN program in general, or anyone who has been accepted and would be so kind as to offer advice (please?).

Thanks in advance, and good luck to all!

Hey I got that email too, I took the teas on 2/23 too. Our proctor had a seizer so that's why, we were delayed like 20 minutes during the science portion and Im so glad they are offering this opportunity. Hopefully I can raise my teas grade cause I got a 78%

I really need to study the english portion..I dont know why i do so low on that section. I need to study english rules...but i just dont know what to really study or a good guide. Well good luck!!

Oh, that is so nice of them to let you re-take the TEAS! Good luck to you both!!!

@ nj892..thanks.how did you score so high on the teas? how did you study for the english portion, that part killed me!

Good luck to all Fall 2013 applicants! I was accepted for Fall 2012 and my stats were:

Prereq: 3.7-3.8

Overall: 3.6

teas: 80%

2 letters of rec.

bilingual letter

went to advising session

county of residence: San Bernardino

i also marked under other that I had community service experience.

Im not sure if any of the requirements has changed but hope this helps! if you guys have any questions i'll try to help out as much as I can. Good luck!

@am90: Thank you for offering to help! How long did it take for you to receive your admission letter/email?

They usually post the accepted students names in the nursing office first then you guys get your official admission letter 1 or 2 weeks after. I think they posted the list around early to mid july for fall admission. If you guys have anymore questions ask away

@am90 thanks for your help. My question is, when in the nursing program, are you able to work? or is school everyday M-F , 7-5pm.

School is not everyday. You will be able to choose your clinical days. For example for my first quarter, I went to school 4 days a week from M-Th. Some of my other friends only had school from M-W so it really depends on the times you choose. For my second quarter and third quarter I only had to go to school twice a week which was wonderful but I was at school the whole day. Some people like their days spread out so they choose to go to school 4 days a week. It also depends on your registration date because everyone wants to fight for certain clinical times so they only have to go to school twice a week and not have to go four days a week. Get it? Hope this helps!

Hello future canidates, my following stats are

prereq: 3.88

Overall: 3.96

teas: 84.7%

2 letters of rec.

bilingual letter

went to advising session

county of residence: Moreno Valley

I also work at the schools gym or the recreational center(actually name) for CSUSB, so if you ever see me, dont be afraid to say hi, i dont bite, my names Kwabs by the way. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

@ Jesses*girl: Sorry for getting back to you a little late! I was enjoying my spring break, not worrying about anything! :) Anyways, I studied over my month long winter break, then another month while in physiology and microbiology, so two months total. I went through the TEAS practice book two or three times, I did some of the practice tests in the McGraw Hill book, I did both practice tests online at ATI.com, and I went through all my old Biology notes, Chemistry notes, and Anatomy notes. I studied from a LOT of different sources for the English portion, but this is because I am not the best in English rules, grammar, and "dissecting" sentences. I found that if I would take a moment to just look at the sentence or word, I could come up with the correct answer. I would say just to study what is in the ATI TEAS study book, especially for the English, reading, and math portions. The science is a bit broader and requires that you have general knowledge in the sciences. If you plan to retake it, just try to relax and not cram the night before. Go in level headed, well-rested, and confident!

@ Jesses*girl:

By the way, I think those last two little sentences I wrote was some of the best advice I got when I was worrying about the TEAS. Don't be hard on yourself... I'm sure you didn't do too bad, and if you did, then there is always time for a second try!
