Hi all! I'm a bit surprised I couldn't find a thread already started on this, so I finally decided to join AllNurses and start it myself :)
As many may have discovered by now, the prerequisites for CSU San Bernardino's nursing program have changed:
1. BIOL 220 (Microbiology)
2. BIOL 223 (Anatomy & Physiology I)
3. BIOL 224 (Anatomy & Physiology II)
4. CHEM 205 (Fundamentals of Chemistry: General Chemistry)
5. COMM 120 or Hon 104C 9Oral Communication)
6. CRITICAL THINKING
7. ENG 107, 104a, 104b, or 106 (Freshman Composition)
8. MATH 115 (Ideas of Math)
As such, I felt as if I couldn't look to previous average acceptance scores and GPAs to measure the probability I'll be accepted.
This thread is for anyone who has applied for Fall 2013 (let's share the anxiety of waiting for letters, lol), anyone who has questions about applying to CSUSB's BSN program in general, or anyone who has been accepted and would be so kind as to offer advice (please?).
Thanks in advance, and good luck to all!
Jasmic, My kid is at a sophomore at CSULB but will need to retake Anatomy for better grade somewhere (maybe at CSUSB) this Fall 2014 so we can apply for Spring 2015 at other CSUs. How difficult is ANATOMY at CSUSB?
It is possible she will have to wait more after spring but we hope some school will accept her. I guess the best thing imo to do is concentrating on applying to as many (ADN, BSN) schools, and work a good part-time on the side. I prefer temp office work so at least you can learn something interesting than just simply find restaurant work. It is tough to wait for unknown but if you really want it and you know you grades are decent, you will be eventually accepted. There are also decent private schools, if you are will to afford the loan, which might save you time and the wait. Good luck and let us know.
@GOODMED: How difficult the class is really depends on each individual. I've had classmates who were 4.0 students yet barely made C's; I've also had classmates that aced the class through an incredible amount of dedication, focus, and personal understanding. Honestly, if you're looking for something less difficult, I'd recommend RCC's A&P classes. This is not to say RCC's instructors are any less competent, but the lectures are much less in-depth and focus on main points rather than intricate details of each system and embryology.
I agree with applying to as many programs as possible as well as a part-time job, but I also highly recommend applying to the COPE Health Solutions CCE program. I joined last summer while waiting to enter the program and can vouch that it's a great way to gain hospital experience and better your patient interaction. I also didn't anticipate just how much it would help during my first quarter in nursing school as many of the tasks you perform as a CCV are things you learn in nursing fundamentals. It also helped clinical be a tad less intimidating since you'll already be familiar interacting with so many different types of patients. The letter of recommendation upon hours completion isn't bad either if you still need one.
I hope that information helps. Good luck to you and your daughter.
@Jasmic
