CSUS Spring 2011 hopeful

Published

I am planning to apply for Sac State's BSN program for Spring 2011. I wanted to get some advice from those who have been accepted for Fall 2010 since the selection criteria has changed. What was your total points, GPA, TEAS scores (if you don't mind posting)? Were you an alternate before getting in? If so, what number were you?

Also, is Sac State accepting 2011 transfer students? I'm a current student, but I just wanted to know to see what my chances are in getting accepted. I'm so nervous & just doubting myself so much! I heard the current cut off point as of now is 58pts & they're on alternate #54! Any advice or feedback would be great. Thanks!

CONGRATS lanakopp!!!!!!:yeah:

Thank you slrberry & RNBound!!!!!! Slrberry, Sac State is my first choice because it's closer to home and I am going to school there right now. I'm soooo excited!!!!!! I wish you the best of luck with your nursing journey!

RNBound, your comment really made me smile :D!!! Thank you for the support. I will definitely be sticking around because this website has helped me a lot during the waiting process, I hope it's the same for nursing school. I wish you the best & in about a week I will hopefully be CONGRATULATING you!!!!! :D:yeah:;)

Congrats Roxy, RNbound!!!! All our hard work finally paid!!!! Can't wait to meet you all :)!!!

I was not expecting to be accepted but I finally was my senior year :D

I just decided to apply once again and I'm so glad I did!

I'm so happy, yet a bit nervous (I hope that's normal).

I also got accepted to San Jose state. Sac State was my number one, though, and I'm already a student and so I know where I'm going.

All this being rejected 3 times before already.

I still can't believe it :)

Congrats to everyone else!

You mine sharing your stats, vianna? I plan to apply to SJSU fall 2011!

I am a Student at Sac State Currently. I am number #20 on the Alternate List. I have applied to Nursing school 9 times. I applied to 6 CSU's (Sac twice now), 1 private school, and 1 JC. I am on the waitlist at the JC, where my grades and TEAS are very good. At the CSU level... I am close. I am wondering in previous years how far did the Alternate List go down? I read the Alternate List will be updated every week until the 2nd week of instruction! I can't imagine starting Nursing school 2 weeks late basically... Anyway. I am planning on retaking the TEAS test b/c you can take it several times apparently at Sac State, I was surprised by that information. My current Stats are:

ALTERNATE NUMBER 20

Spring 2010 Applicant Pool Data –

Total Points

30

Nursing GPA

3.447

TEAS Score

83.5

Optional Criteria Points

6

Okay, one last question for everyone who got in are most of you bilingual as well? I am working on becoming bilingual but, I am not quite there.

Thank you!:hug::kiss

roxy922, lanakopp, vianna: I'm excited to meet you all and get this party started! :hpygrp:Wow, that is a crap load of smiley faces. Lord knows we might as well enjoy this time before the really long days start.

Everything is so expensive (which I knew of course), but I wonder if the nursing loans are considered earlier than the stafford loans.... At any rate, I feel slightly lost as to what the lay out of the semester will look like. I did look at the class schedule, but much of it is TBA. Anyone have any insight? Is the Wednesday b4 classes start the only orientation day?

:anbd: (I just thought this one was funny.)

Hi ylime,

I'm not bilingual -I wish. You can take your TEAS test up to three times for CSUS. I would say to make sure you get accepted next semester that you should take the time to retake some of your prereqs&coreqs. Even retaking the ones with the lowest grades and putting them in progress could help lift your GPA. In the past I would have said there was no way anyone could get in with the stats you put up (no offense because they are good, but not normally enough for the impacted BSN programs), but it looks like you have a fighting chance at alt#20. You can do it. Good luck!!:heartbeat

HAHAHA the smiley faces are awesome! I'm also excited to meet all of you. I'm excited & still in shock, but the nervousness is kicking in more and more each day! I think I've gotten even more paranoid than before lol, I'm scared that one little mistake will get me kicked out of the program & we haven't even started yet! I estimated how much I need to spend on books and uniforms and OMMMMGGG  nursing school is going to burn holes through my pockets! I didn't even include expenses for the pre-entry check list which will likely consist of background check, physical, immunizations, health insurance, drug and alcohol screening, etc. Do all of you have health insurance? I used to have medi-cal, but I don't think I'm covered anymore since I'm older than 21. Anyone have any advice?

Waiting j, I'm pretty sure that the only orientation day for new nursing students is January 19th. Teri said she will email us about the nursing classes and registration in early December so that should probably answer most of our questions. I know that you get to choose between UCDavis or Sutter General for your clinicals. I'm still debating on which one to choose. Any insights?

Did you guys purchase your uniform and equipment already?

Roxy, I don't have anything on the checklist...yet. I do know I'm going to choose the cargo pants though ;). My mom went to CSUS as well for her BSN (years ago of course), she said that UCDavis was great for the interesting stuff that you won't usually get to see at Sutter General. However, Sutter General would be better for learning how to take care of the more common ailments and emergencies. So...I guess it depends on what you're thinking you'd like to specialize in. I thought we'd be doing rotations at both. :(

I saw that we have access now to the Sacramento State Nursing Sourcepage on SacCT. I also noticed that there are 80 slots for the classes. Guess they received the funding for 80 students. We never needed to stress; we could have gotten in with much lower GPA's and TEAS scores. I wouldn't be suprised if 80% of applicants made it in (well, that's for 125 applicants, 80 admitted including about 20 alternates). I think you have a good shot at getting in ylime.

Oh man, I just checked the alt. list update, they are at #8 after the first week. I am # 20, keep your finger crossed for me everyone. It seems like kinda a long shot, but I can hope! It's only a matter of time, whether it is this semester, or coming soon I am eventually going to get in...

Thank you for the encouragement Waiting J

I'd have to look at home!

If you don't get in, apply during spring!

Also, I don't think I have medi-cal insurance anymore..not sure. Any suggestions?
