CSUN ABSN 2020

Published

Hi all,

I wanted to start a post on the CSUN ABSN 2020 cohort. Feel free to add any comments or questions regarding the application process. Let’s help each other out! Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Best of luck!!

Not sure if anyone has an answer but on the CSUN website it states

"A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution or international equivalent with a GPA of 3.0 or higher or a master’s degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher"

I went to a community college and then transferred to a 4 year university. Do I use the 4 year university GPA I graduated with or do I have to calculate the overall GPA and include my community college GPA in there?

I'm just curious because I stumbled into another forum and there was a discussion about the overall GPA including both community college GPA and the university GPA....

@Deohen Oh I meant, I am part of the recently accepted cohort, we start in June, and our orientation is on Saturday. Just dropping in to say good luck to everyone in this next app process and to make sure to read past allnurses threads! A lot of good stuff! If I were to give a piece of advice for anyone at this point of your application- it's to get some health care experience (like volunteerships, if you're not already working in the field). The Director particularly is a fan of the COPE Health Scholars program ;)

@etchensketch Hi! I was a Assistant Director of Departments for the COPE Health Scholars Program. The program now has a new Program Manager that I didn't get to work with so I wasn't sure if they would be the best in filling out the standard recommendation form that CSUN has. I was wondering, did you have COPE complete a recommendation form or did you submit the typed out recommendation letter that COPE provides?

Hi! I just came across this thread. I'm applying too! good luck everyone!

Hi @Missfuturepedsnurse! Good luck to you too!

Hi everyone,

I have a complicated question and I'm not sure if someone here can give me a good answer.

I applied for cohort 2020 and submitted my current transcripts where I have completed all my prerequisites. However, I am currently retaking one science course for a better grade and that class won't be done until 8/1. It will take a week for my official grades to be published.

Is there any point in sending in my better grade, even after the deadline? I read in the 2019 thread that someone was admitted even after having a class in progress.

Hi,

I don’t think it will hurt you if you send it in afterwards. From what they said in the information session, all classes should have been completed by the spring semester 2019 (this May/June). I don’t think the odds of them seeing your grade are high considering the application is due on August 6th. I’d still send it though. It wouldn’t hurt!

Hey! I am actually on the same boat as you. I completed all my prereqs but I decided to take a science class again to try to get an A this time around and it ends this summer too. I am going to send my updated transcript after the class is over just in case it is taken in consideration. But as long as you have all your prereqs done before applying, you should be good to go!

@Pedsnurseintraining @del_nurse Thank you two for replying! I will send in my updated transcript when I finish the class. Wishing the best of luck to all of us in this thread.

Does anyone have a PDF from the info session they might be willing to email me? I am working on my application still and just want to make sure I don’t miss anything!

Also wanna make sure I’m doing this right: for experiential background, do they want just clinical experience or any job experience? I don’t have any “paid work” experience in medicine yet, because I’m switching careers. I’m nervous to give the wrong information!

thanks in advance ?

Anyone else having troubling starting the application? I tried starting the online application today to submit and it says "The application server is down at this time".

The site is unavailable tonight. Since I already applied and have an account for CSUN, the webportal had this notification "Due to scheduled maintenance, all SOLAR services will be unavailable Wednesday, July 31, 8 p.m.-midnight."

Be sure to apply tomorrow!
