Hi all,
I wanted to start a post on the CSUN ABSN 2020 cohort. Feel free to add any comments or questions regarding the application process. Let’s help each other out! Looking forward to getting to know you all.
Best of luck!!
Does everyone here have previous experience in healthcare and/or volunteer hours?? Do you know how much weight this has on the admission decision?
I will be done with my pre reqs by end of July and my GPA so far is good. But I have NO healthcare or volunteer experience and dont have time right now because I have a 2yr old and 9 month old in the house >_<
I am applying this cycle if I don't get off the waitlist at USF MEPN program.
Since people are asking if Healthcare experience is required, take a look at the volunteer experience form. It says "Prefer 100 hours or more of patient care experience in a clinical setting, completed within 24 months prior to submitting your application. CNA/EMT etc. school training/clinical hours are not considered volunteer hours." It says prefer so I would say no you don't need healthcare experience. If you want to be competitive then yes. Test drive the car before you buy it!
Hi everyone!
Just wanted to drop in and say good luck to all the applicants now that the application period is open. I'm sure everyone has/is working hard to get into a nursing program. Graduated with a BS in Public Health at CSUN in 2018 and took some time to finish up prereqs. Will finish my last class this summer. Currently have 300+ hrs in clinic experience, interned at hospitals, have been a part of multiple health orgs during undergrad. Hopefully it's enough to be admitted!
Hi! That's awesome, you sound like you're prepared for the cycle. Also, I might want to mention in case there are others. I am on the same boat as you and have a prerequisite that I'm completing right now in the summer. I spoke with the coordinator in person, and at the previous info session they had awhile ago, and they mentioned that all prerequisites have to be completed the spring semester of 2019. So I have to wait a cycle You might want to visit/speak with the coordinator as well just to clarify!

This is true. I went to the information session and all prerequisites must be completed by Spring 2019. Unfortunately if you are finishing up classes during the Summer semester, you’ll have to apply for the Spring 2021 cohort.

Like if I dont apply by the August deadline for Spring Cohort 2020, the next application period is next summer so Spring Cohort 2021 or do they have Summer and/or Fall Cohorts?
That is correct. There is only one application window for the year. If you miss this window, you must wait until June 2020 to apply for the Spring 2021 cohort.
