I noticed that there wasn't a thread posted for CSUN ABSN 2015 yet so I thought I'd start one I'm currently a student at CSUN finishing my BA in psychology (I will be graduating this December). I can hardly wait to start nursing school! I wanted to start this thread so us CSUN applicants can get to know each other.
Hey everyone!
This may be a silly question.. I know that we applied to the university as "graduate students" even though this is an accelerated bachelor's degree (which is technically an undergraduate degree). Since I was not able to make it to the information session, does anyone know for sure if we will be eligible to receive graduate student loans through FAFSA? I am assuming that since we applied and were accepted as "graduate students" , this would be true. I called the financial aid office to confirm that I would be eligible to receive graduate student loans and they were not able to tell me anything because they couldn't access my updated FAFSA yet. I just want some reassurance that this program qualifies as being a graduate program for financial aid purposes. I would appreciate any information you guys have :) I just don't want anything getting in the way of beginning this program! Summer session is coming up quick! Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted and I will keep my fingers crossed for those of you are waiting to hear decisions!!! :)
@ charming_kitty thanks for your response! I'm unable to send a private message because I'm so new on allnurses. I will be calling financial aid again tomorrow. They should be able to provide some basic information to us about the cost of the program/ what federal loans may be allotted. I'm a member of the facebook group already :) Hopefully we will get some information soon about orientation!
Argh, sorry if this is a double post. First, I was told by financial aid to apply for loans as an undergraduate student, even though we're called graduate students and will be paying grad student tuition rates. FAFSA lets you select that you're trying for your second bachelor degree. Also - can someone please pm me a link to the summer cohort facebook page?
@ magoldien[COLOR=#000000]. just sent you a PM

on my financial aid for csunportal it says that I do not have financial aid for summer, and that fall financial aid will be available mid-April. I'll make a call to the FA office tomorrow. there are differences in Federal loans. I believe for some, the amount you are awarded depends on how much you owe, so if you have loans from your undergrad you may not be eligible to borrow as much. However, if you are under 24, you can have your parents help you take out a parent direct plus loan. ABSN students are not eligible for the Grad direct loan. Regardless of your tax filing status, you are considered indepedent once you are 24 for financial aid. Please correct me if I am wrong.

My portal looks like that too but I'm guessing we just have to keep waiting for the acceptance email from the nursing dept.
