CSUN ABSN 2015

Published

I noticed that there wasn't a thread posted for CSUN ABSN 2015 yet so I thought I'd start one I'm currently a student at CSUN finishing my BA in psychology (I will be graduating this December). I can hardly wait to start nursing school! I wanted to start this thread so us CSUN applicants can get to know each other.

Hey @charming_kitty !

Can you send me the link to the Summer Cohort 2015 FB Group. I'm kind of new to this site so I didnt know how to PM you haha

KC102 I just PMed you link. Posting links to social media sites is not allOwed

Hello!

I got an email on April 1st notifying me of my acceptance to the A-BSN 2015 Summer Session (cohort 15)! I have accepted the offer and have been trying to research financial aid options. I was unable to make it to any information sessions and the only information I have is what is on the school website. I decided to call the financial aid office today about funding for the program and they notified me that only continuing CSUN students are eligible for Summer Session financial aid (through FAFSA). I was told that financial aid will be available starting Fall 2015 for new CSUN students. I also called to confirm this with the Nursing Department. I am a currently attending a community college and have a current FAFSA on-file. I had only checked the box for Fall 2015 entry and was surprised to have been offered a spot for the summer start, though I am very grateful for this opportunity. I am anxious to attend the orientation on April 14th to find out more information. Does anyone happen to have anymore information on the breakdown of fees for textbooks, uniforms, or supplies? I was able to get a breakdown of tuition costs and student fees for the summer session but I was hoping to have a better approximation of costs so I can get a private student loan in time to begin the program. May is coming up quick!

Congratulations! I haven't done much research into the financials yet myself...

Does anyone know how far they are with Fall acceptances? It's hard to stay confident in this waiting game.

Hi there - fellow summer cohort member here :) I'm also new to CSUN and I have never received financial aid before. I spent hours today and yesterday figuring student loan stuff out. Yet somehow I had not heard that FAFSA will not cover summer session! That sucks. Either way, what I did is apply for FAFSA and a private loan. The CSUN Financial Aid Dept told me they will be able to get back to me about how much FAFSA will loan me in 2 weeks or so, and that whatever FAFSA doesn't cover, they can request from the private loan. If FAFSA really does not cover summer session, the private loan should be able to pay for it, and then FAFSA will kick in in the fall.

Also: I was also told to contact the program coordinator to request "Enrollment Protection" if I'm worried that my financial aid won't be sorted out before payment is due. Apparently this means they will not disenroll you from the program/drop your classes if you don't pay on time, as long as you prove your financial aid/loan is pending.

Here's the breakdown I got from mycsun portal for the fall and spring semesters.

however, keep in mind we have 2 summer semesters.
