I noticed that there wasn't a thread posted for CSUN ABSN 2015 yet so I thought I'd start one I'm currently a student at CSUN finishing my BA in psychology (I will be graduating this December). I can hardly wait to start nursing school! I wanted to start this thread so us CSUN applicants can get to know each other.

Hi all,

I got accepted for the Summer 2015 cohort yesterday. Very excited!!! I was just wondering if other CSUN ABSN students here can give me a heads up as to when the summer semester will start. I am invited to a wedding at the end of May back in the home country that I need to RSVP yay or nay. I tried calling the Nursing Dept to ask them, but was told to wait for more information - they couldn't give me a start date or general idea. What day did previous summer semesters start?

Congratulations! I am not sure if the ABSN program operates on a different calendar from the rest of campus, but Summer session begins right after graduation week, that is, May 26, the Tuesday after Memorial Day. I imagine the summer cohort kicks off then as well...

Does stuff like this happen often at CSUN? I live in westwood, which is like super safe.

I haven't read of incidents like this happening directly ON campus. However, off-campus, these do happen occasionally which is typical in areas with a lot of people and unattended apartments/homes. No one's ever been harmed in the years that I've been here though and I live right across campus.

Hi!

I currently live with my family and I don't know if I'll end up moving into my own space once I begin in the program. I might consider it though.

There's this big apartment that's on the "higher-end" side right across Reseda Blvd. called Meridian Place. I don't know how much the rent is but it's a place with pretty good security since you need a code/card to get in, use the elevator, etc.

I don't know if Googling something like "apartments near CSUN" would come up with good results but it's worth a shot. If you get a few potential places from there, I suggest calling in to make appointments and going to see the places.

As for Campus housing, i.e.: the dorms, I know next to nothing about that...

That's all I could think of right now.

Did everyone indicate that they're flexible for Summer or Fall? I only put summer because someone when I called the nursing department months ago, I asked if selecting only one choice would limit me. They said that if your preference (summer or fall) is full but they want to offer you admission, they will still offer you a spot in the other cohort. But I'm so worried about this now because others on here have said that they put down a "first choice" and "second choice." I just spoke with someone from the department and he said that he's not sure if they're considering applicants for fall if they indicated summer as their preference...he said they "might be." So yeah, I am freaking out about this.

I only marked summer, and I still haven't heard. It doesn't look like anyone who is active on this site has heard since Wednesday. Is there anyone out there who has been accepted but hasn't commented? I thought every nursing applicant in the entire country was active on these boards!!

I was thinking the same thing! I bet there's lots of people who have heard but for some reason this thread is less active this time around. The waiting is making me so incredibly nervous ...
