CSUN ABSN 2015

Published

I noticed that there wasn't a thread posted for CSUN ABSN 2015 yet so I thought I'd start one I'm currently a student at CSUN finishing my BA in psychology (I will be graduating this December). I can hardly wait to start nursing school! I wanted to start this thread so us CSUN applicants can get to know each other.

I doubt they got all the way through the alphabet towards the end in one day lol. Last year's applicants found out about acceptances over a period of 4-5 days or more 👍 congrats on your acceptance though!

@ElizabethH736. did they say anything about car insurance at the info session? I'll definitely arrange transportation, but I won't have a license/car by the time the program starts.

No, they didn't mention anything about that.

congrats!!! I hope the rest of you will hear from them soon :)

I have the same dilemma as you @charming_kitty. I don't drive nor have a car. Does anyone know where clinicals take place and how far they are?

And I have not had any updates from admissions either. My name starts with L.

I haven't heard from admissions either and my last name starts with H. Clinicals take place at: Northridge Hospital, Children's Hospital LA, Cedars Sinai, and Kaiser Permanente to name a few. A good friend of mine is in the program right now.

I heard Kaiser panorama. Any at Kaiser sunset?

Hello all! I got in! I received the email this afternoon and didn't have the courage to open it until I got home in the evening. LoL I had my mom read it and she started crying.(^^,) It hasn't really sunk in yet... Anyway, for those who are wondering, my last name starts with a D and I did apply early in November. Someone I know who applied about two weeks after I did got her receipt and update emails about two weeks after I got mine so they may be going through in the order the applications were received. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and good luck to all of us!

BTW, the email did not contain any clues such as "Congratulations" in the subject line. Just in case you freak out prematurely when you receive the email. :)

btw, i applied almost close to the deadline, 11/30, so I don't think they're reading the applications in order. I almost forgot to the university LOL. also, i didn't receive a provsional acceptance from the university because they needed an updated transcript from my university.

Can someone advise me on housing near CSUN?

Good luck everyone! I hope to meet all of you~~

@@Lorebethlee and @wareham4956, sorry for the trouble, i have additional questions.

1. Do you often have evening classes? As for campus safety, is it dangerous to walk around at night?

2. Faculty-wise how do you like your instructors. Do you feel like faculty are enthusiastic about teaching and willing to help? If I study very hard, will I be able to earn A's?

3. For senior preceptorship, do you get to choose which specialty?

4. As for graduates in the previous cohort, where have they found jobs?

I'm from Chatsworth so I know the area around CSUN very well. If your main concern is being super close to campus, then you can't beat Northridge, North Hills, Granada Hills, Lake Balboa, or Chatsworth. If you're willing to drive a tiny bit further (15-20 min drive to campus) but have more access to bars/restaurants/shops, then I would suggest the south Valley: Tarzana, Encino, Sherman Oaks. All of these are off of Ventura Boulevard, which is the more "happening" part of the Valley. Housing here is probably slightly pricier than it is closer to campus.

I would try to steer clear of anything east of the 405 (Panorama City, Van Nuys, North Hollywood) only because crossing the 405 will often double your traffic time. I love my neighborhood (Studio City, next to Universal Studios) and I would recommend it, but it's at least 20-25 mins to CSUN.

Hope this helps!

As far as I've heard from past cohorts, they do Kaiser Panorama City but not Kaiser Sunset. Clinicals are also done at Valley Presbyterian and the V.A. in addition to the ones ElizabethH736 named.
