CSULB Spring 2017

Published

Is anyone applying? :) I thought I'd start a thread.

True, I should be optimistic, however the email stated that the cut-off was 9.15 and anyone who was under was invited as an alternate. My score was 9.12 so I am not going to be overly optimistic, and more realistic. I don't count myself out completely, who knows with the communication exercise, things could have changed. But I really don't want to get my hopes up, I have given up my spots from other colleges because the only college I want to attend is CSULB, one of the reasons is because I live very very close and wouldn't have to deal with driving, and CSULB has one of the best nursing programs in SoCal.

I am wishing all of you luck in getting in, I've met so many great and smart people from the ones I met while taking the Teas, to the ones I met while doing the communication exercise. Also all of you on here have very strong scores and I'm optimistic that all or almost all will have no problem getting a spot. :)

That's true. I had a strong score of 10.22, but the more time that passes the more I overthink what I could have done better during the group meeting. I started taking college course 2 years ago and from the very start I had CSULB Nursing in mind because I know it's one of the best in SoCal. I'm still hopeful that my two years of dedication will pay off. And for all the people keeping this thread alive I appreciate the feedback and interaction. You're not alone.

If you had 10.22 to begin with, then it would virtually be impossible for you to not get in. You'd have to get less than 1 point on the communication exercise which is worth two points total. Last semester the cutoff was 11.45 which was way higher than it probably is this year because they switched to the reading teas. The cutoff will probably be closer to 11.15. Also if the cutoff was 11.45 after the comm excercise it was probably around 9.45 before which tells me that they're giving a lot of people the full 2 points on it because the cutoff is based on the competitive ranking of the 80 highest eligible applicants. My understanding is that the communication exercise is just a formality and you really have to mess up bad not to make it past. Eg maybe someone has a language barrier or so I was told. So you should be worried the least.

Always hope for the best but also prepare for the worse. I don't say this just regarding acceptance letters, but use this for everything in your life. This way, if things do go right, then you celebrate; on the other hand, if they don't go as planned than you were already prepared and ready to move forward! Anyway, good luck for all of us!!! And for those who are nervous as much as I am, inhale slowly and deeply, exhale and try to change your line of thoughts. This has been helping me to stop freaking out about this upcoming email!! :)

What you said is definitely true. The more time passes, the more I think of things I should have said or maybe not said. However, I'd like to think that this is our brain playing tricks on us since we are really stress out about this!! You have an amazing score and I believe you will be fine!!! Good luck again! :)

Do you mind breaking down your 10.22 for us late comers?

I joined this thread about 2 weeks ago because I was searching for like minded students in regards to the CSULB interview. I didn't know how to calculate my grade, so a fellow group memeber helped me out. I scored 90% on the Reading, 88% overall, my science gpa was 3.67 and my gen. Ed GPA is 4.0. My stats alone make me a competitive candidate, but being a U.S. Army Veteran earned me an extra 1 point.

Again.... 90 invited to interview for 80 spots...

I figured you were a vet (thank you). I must have calculated my score wrong because I got 9.64

teas overall -95.3%

reading 96%

science gpa 4.0

gen ed gpa 4.0

Am I missing a value? Or am I mathing late at night?

Your score is 9.83

Science: 4

GEs: 2

Teas: 1.906

Reading teas: 1.92

Total: 9.826

Sigh... everyone's stats here are so high :(

I think mine is a 8.96 even though I'm not sure.

Science: 3.5...

GE: 3.75

Reading: 88.1

Overall: 91.3

I've been waiting hoping I'd get a reply from the nursing department but I just found this thread and if the cut off is 9.15 then I stand no chance for even the alternates!!! T_T So I just wanted to say congrats to the rest of you guys.

Does anyone have any recommendations for alternate programs and schools? I tried looking into them but the only one I found that didn't seem bad was CSULA. I don't know anything about these private schools and such and other backup options... any help would be greatly appreciated ;; I was trying to find a program that also offers a BSN in 3 years instead of a 2 year ADN but alas idk what I'm doing...

It depends how far you're willing to travel. In socal as far as CSU's there are CSUSB, CSULA, CSULB, CSUSM, CSUF. Not really sure of private colleges. I think West Coast University has a 3 year BSN but I wouldn't touch that place with a 10 foot pole, that college has a bad reputation and its crazy expensive. CSULA also takes health related work experience into consideration so if you have that then it will help.
