Is anyone applying? :) I thought I'd start a thread.
I debated whether or not to attend West Coast University. I read many reviews and asked some close friends that are currently at WC or have attended. From what I gather, for-profit schools are more concerned about the quantity of students and not the quality of education. Fortunately, one of my friends successfully went through WC and passed her NCLEX. At what cost? (39 months ~ $133,000) I took a look at their NCLEX pass rates....On their website this is what was claimed "Collectively, the campuses reached an 88.6 percent pass rate".
When it came down to it, there were just too many negatives (in my opinion) that outweighed the delayed gratification of **crossing fingers & saying more prayers than ever**** getting into CSULB.
So true. I started this process 2 years ago and I began taking pre-requisites with two other friends. We are all applying to different schools based on income and life situation, but we all have the same destination; becoming an RN. One of my friends decided to go to West Coast Univesity the other decided on Western Governers. They have tried to persuade me to go join them at a private school, but I keep reminding them; everything that I have put into my coursework and life has been to have the opportunity to join the best nursing program which, in my opinion, is CSULB and I haven't waivered. I'm excited 100 percent.
From what I gather West Coast is a last resort school for when you have exhausted all other options. This is why there is a stigma associated with West Coast. Why else would you wanna be saddled with 130k debt out of school? Also If you fail which many do, you still have to end up paying. I'd rather do five semesters at CSULB for 15 grand, which I probably won't have to pay all of with the help of aid. Also, I'm not sure how West Coast credits will look to grad schools if any of you plan on going that route like I do.
Ah I see... thank you for the more information on West Coast!!
I might just try to find an ADN program to apply into and then do an RN to BSN program, though I don't know of many ADN programs. Thanks again ^_^ I'm sorry for changing the original topic of this thread... I hope you all do well at CSULB!! I'm so jealous T_T
Do all of those CSUs accept transfers? And are all the pre-reqs generally the same for those since they're all under the CSU tag? And all have BSN programs? I know CSULA's pre-reqs are the same except I think they specify Public Speaking for the communication one. If those are less competitive than CSULB and accept the several B's I have I would be so happy T_T I suppose I could just research this on my own when I have the time. Thank you for your advice!!I will be sure to stay away from West Coast haha.
From what I know and have gathered info on CSUF because I once was thinking of applying there but the nursing program at CSUF only accept their current freshmen into the program and it's even more competitive than CSULB since there's only 20-30 spots instead of 80 at CSULB. Regarding private schools and West Coast in particular, why don't you guys call or inquire info at Concordia University in Irvine. My friend is applying there under their accelerated track to get her BSN and it's much cheaper than West Coast with higher NCLEX passing rate. Tuition is around 50-60k and when I checked the NCLEX passing rate this morning it was in the high 90s.
I thought I'd let you guys know, a couple of my friends attended a nursing information session in CSULB and were informed that you can either get a 0pt or 2 pts for the communication exercise. So basically, you either pass it or you don't. They wont reward .5 pts, 1.8 pts, etc or anything between 0 and 2.
