Hey everyone!
Did anyone else apply to CSULB for Fall 2014? The school app was due last Saturday, and then we have the month of January to submit for the School of Nursing.
Based on previous threads, it looks like we are invited to an interview about a month after the deadline, and the cutoff was ~9.1 points.
Here are my stats so we can see how we stand this year!
Science GPA: 3.58
GE GPA: 3.77
TEAS: 97.3
TEAS Math: 100
I think that works out to about 9.4 points... the average keeps rising each year, so it would be nice to see where we all fall!
Good luck everyone :)
St14,
I am disappointed. I'm sure we can agree that being denied for anything is never pleasant....lol
The talk with the director did make me feel much better about only being delayed 12 weeks in my goal plans.
However, contrary to what you stated, from my experience, more schools DO allow you to apply w/ a course IP than do not. And, they simply ask that you turn in the grades when posted...
I was not bashing, just expressing an opinion that I still stand behind. With top schools Universities such as UCLA and USC not penalizing, why would LB decide to do so? Or why would they make the weight on that IP course allow a top applicant to be disqualified. The ranking system is flawed.
Just as you have to, this makes student have unnecessary gaps in their college progress, which has proven to have negative effects on overall progress and college students returning rates...
Just my opinion, and I don't think I am alone on this. And, i definitely do not apologize for it...
So, I'll take a little vacation and see you all in the spring... I know i will get an 'A' because,as well as getting paid to tutor physio, bio, anatomy, and chemistry at my college, I also assist with the micro bio tutoring. I currently have 2 100% exams and 4 100% quizzes...
I'm not psychic, but I am definitely confident in my A grade ...
:)
Now i will be accepted to my other applied school, csula (because they dont penalize for in progress class)I know if i apply for spring @ LB i will make it, but that means i have to turn down csula... Crappy decisions.
Why would you turn down Cal State LA over CSULB? Based on national ranking of nursing programs, CSULA ranks a lot higher than CSULB. Furthermore, wasn't CSULA your first choice? Also, you live about 5 minutes away from CSULA. Cost-wise, CSULA and CSULB are probably very similar. For me, my biggest criteria were cost and distance. I just wanted to get into a school that was close and relatively inexpensive. CSULB is about 5 minutes from my home...and is a state college, so it was the natural for me to want to get into CSULB nursing program. Had I lived close to CSULA, I would have wanted to go there instead. Different strokes, I suppose.
Also, if you apply for the CSULB 'spring '15...you won't necessarily have to turn down your acceptance to CSULA. I believe the acceptance into CSULB spring term is provided during the summer. So if you find out you got into CSULB for spring...then there's still time to turn down CSULA before their Fall '14 term starts.
Ranking means little to me.. Either BSN degree spends the same way...
Yes CSULA is closer. But I was trying to get away from the +/- grading system... I can't stand the thought of loosing my 4.0 GPA for an A-... The masters program I plan to attend are very competitive..
Furthermore, the LA program is 3 years, LB can be done in 2. That's a huge plus...
LB is a little drive (30 minutes) but my motorcycle get me places pretty quick, and traffic is not an issue...
I will apply for spring at LB, and keep my options open...

You seem to be clearly upset that you didn't get an interview. Your stats are great. However, I think the issue here is that you applied too early. I, too, wanted to start immediately the next semester after I finished all my pre-reqs because I hate wasting time also. Most schools don't even let you apply with a science course in progress and those that allow will adjust your in-progress grade to make it fair to those who've already completed those courses (and who knows, just because one is a straight 'A' student doesn't mean he or she will get an A for that in-progress class). So I decided to wait to be on the safe side (It will be 2 semesters gone by since I last took my last pre-req). Just be patient and apply again if you really want to get into CSULB. No need to bash them. The nursing staff do read these forums.
