Hi!
I think the CSULB School of nursing recently post new pool statistics including those who were chosen for Fall 2011.

Knowing that the rating average is 8.91/10, that seems like a huge difference than the previous semesters!
Anyone else planning to apply to CSULB Fall 2012 BSN program?
Wow you're taking a backup chem course? After taking 4 sciences in one year I definitely knew I didnt want to take a science this semester. And don't worry it's not just you and me, some of my friends who were Pre nursing majors got like one B or C in a class and were discouraged so they changed their major completely. That means they took like two years of classes for nothing! Luckily they will still be able to graduate in a total of less than 5 years.
@BeachsideNic- Thanks for all that info. Good luck with everything!
I too wonder how much applications they received this semester. Ifind it strange that they still have not posted the stats for Spring 2012.
It's going to be a long 4 weeks.

I'm a nervous wreck!!!! It's gonna be a very long 4 weeks...
Hey everyone,
It looks like the thread has all but dried up!
So hearing from CSULB is the most important thing on the list, but the second at least for me is how I am going to support myself financially while in the program.
I recently applied for financial aid and was denied, and more than likely I will not be receiving ANY aid for my first year in nursing school, so I will be getting a loan. I'm assuming I will qualify for some aid my second year. Does anyone know how much money one could get? Maybe someone who already qualified. I know it is based on income, so it will vary.
I don't know why everyone is afraid of loans lol. If that is how your have to pay then it is what it is. Not a big deal. You can still apply for scholarships and grants. Not much $$ you will get but at least its something. You can try working during school to help pay. I will be working during nursing school. Don't do a lot of hours but at least that's something. Also, if you get loans, they give you (at least they did for me) give you more then enough to cover tuition and fees. That way the rest of it can go towards books, supplies or just put it into an account. To get interest and after you graduate put that and interest back toward the bank to pay it off. Good luck guys. Hope you all get in!
Not all Federal loans are "need-based" so you may still qualify for unsubsidized and Parent PLUS loans. Did you just apply for the FAFSA? CSULB Fin Aid Office may not have processed everything yet so you may still get the opportunity to get those loans. Private loans are usually based on credit and income (your parents may have to co-sign). To me, I am cautious of private loans for many reasons which I am sure you can find by searching it on Google. I would try to get one from a financial credit union or bank first before even considering operations like "Sallie Mae". Just borrow smart (i.e. no more than you need), finish with a good degree that will offer a good career and pays well, and be prepared to pay those bills when you finish. I've had to deal with finances at the CC and UC levels and they are no fun. I got by with scholarships, grants, financial aid, and working part-time. I have some friends who struggle with repaying their personal loans and some who are in good careers and managing very well. Hope we all fall in the latter!
Good luck!
Thank you both for the great info.
I was just hoping to qualify for some financial aid because my wife lost her job last Aug. I don't have an issue with loans, as you stated DarkBlue "it is what it is," but I think we can all agree, we would rather owe less than more. I am hoping to do the trimester program which I think will make it difficult for me to work and to be honest I don't want the distraction of work. I'm a transfer student, so I am lucky not to have any student loan debt so far. I plan on meeting with someone in financial aid office, if I'm accepted.
ms.chia I am definitely steering clear of private loans! Horror story after horror story.
Hi everyone! I have been reading this thread for a while now and I finally decided to make an account and join in the conversation. I was wondering if any one knows how many transfers are being accepted for fall of 2012? I think for last fall, they only accepted 25 of the most qualified transfers. Oh, and please! If you received an email regarding an interview invite, please share ASAP!
Oh lol. Private loans? like is sallie Mae private? They are my loan people. Pretty quick and simple to get them. I don't want to owe anyone $$ either but this is life for us broke people..If you do the trimester program good but I still recommend getting a job if you do basic program. Better to have some experience then none at all. Just say'in. Good luck guys. I know you will all make it in!

I have taken so many unnecessary classes as well!! Right now I'm even taking an extra chemistry class in preparation for a backup major. I seriously doubt I am going to need it... it feels awful sitting in classes that are basically a waste of time now! It seems like we have had a lot of the same experiences during the pre-nursing process; it's nice to know I'm not the only one experiencing all this frustration!
