  1. Hi all... I know this is the kind of thing that probably gets posted all the time... but I'm essentially just looking for some reassurance. I'm about to start my first travel assignment in a few weeks, and I'm sick with anxiety every day. I have 3 years experience in a high volume, high risk L&D unit which was an absolute madhouse most of the time, but where I had endless support and love from my wonderful coworkers. That was my first nursing job out of school, and it's the only hospital I've ever worked in (even did all my clinical rotations there!) In short, I had gotten comfortable. I had excellent experience and exposure to everything under the sun when it came to L&D. I knew it was time to branch out and spread my wings, and in my heart I know it was the right decision to break out of my comfort zone. But you guys, I'm not exaggerating when I say that I feel sick to my stomach every day now that I've actually taken the leap and signed a contract at another hospital. My wonderful supportive fiance is going with me as he is also an RN, so I know I'm lucky to have his support and presence. No, this is not the first time I've moved away from home, but this time I'm going across the country. I'm worried no one will help me if I have an OB emergency; I'm especially terrified of having a baby code on me and not having my usual resources I'm familiar with. I'm scared of the new charting system, I'm worried no one will like me or be nice to me. Okay... I have some anxiety issues in case you couldn't tell. :/ I also struggle with depression, which I know affects all this. I just want to know that it's all going to be okay, but I feel like I'm not good enough or that I'm somehow going to mess this up. Has anyone else experienced this and lived to tell the tale? (haha) Any other L&D travelers out there- are people nice to you? Advice? Thanks in advance. :)
  2. Ok thanks Ana! That definitely clears things up. And thanks for the info about the insurance!
  3. Wait, actually now that I'm looking at it it's really unclear. It says it has to be done by July, but then it says to bring any paperwork of titers with you to orientation. I'll call the SON tomorrow and try to clear it up.
  4. Jonathan- that's all you have to have completed by orientation. But, you should start figuring out all of your vaccination stuff now, b/c it all has to be done by the end of July. So just start working on asap!
  5. Has anyone uploaded their DL to magnus yet? It then says to answer the "test question" about DL expiration date..... I cannot find that anywhere! Am I totally blind?!
  6. Caligirl: I did the exact same thing as spiffy, so maybe emailing directly to HIT is what got us cleared?! I don't know, good luck!!!
  7. Yayyy got a spot too! I'm relieved; beachside was getting me nervous :)
  8. Omg... I don't know why it told me I had to wait till June!!! I can totally register... except now I really need to get my prerequisite transcripts in!
  9. Peacelove: I know it's really tough. If you end up going to Long Beach, let me know! I'll be looking for roommates!
  10. Spiff: I applied last week, my registration is june 7. Did you get a few emails from SBCC saying they got your app? There should be one where they tell you how to login to your account. Then once you login there is a link for finding out your registration info. When I applied there were tons of seats, now they are all mostly full. GRR! At SFSU I took DFM 253, Nutrition in Health and Disease. I just called the SON at LB and they said it was the right class. I really wanted to do pharm over the summer... but I'm not very optimistic that it will happen.
  11. Peacelove: I messaged you with some info. CSULB had a 97% pass rate last year.
  12. Spiffy: Do you mean online at SBCC? I'm pretty sure the prereq for both patho and pharm is the same class, it's that biomedical class called "form and function" haha... aka anatomy and physio? not sure why they don't just call it that. I'm kicking myself for not applying to sbcc earlier... my registration isn't until june, so i'm pretty sure i have no chance of getting either of those classes. Luckily the nutrition i took as a prereq for SF state counts. I'm really nervous you guys! I mean, I'm excited, but nervous too. I'll be moving all the way across the state. =/
  13. I got financial aid info as well. I got a lot more than usual for the loan... which probably reflects the elevated tuition. *sigh*
  14. @ Spiffy: I'm so sorry!! I also left bio blank on my supp app under "nursing courses," but did get accepted so that can't be the problem. Did you call them!?! You are definitely qualified! And how awful, remember how we were even worrying about the supplemental application and filling it out correctly? I can't see how that could disqualify you though.
  15. Spiffy: That is so weird... I feel like you had more than enough points to get in to SD! I got accepted today but we only have until monday to respond... kind of lame. Also, the acceptance email was kind of rude... it talked about how i was accepted then there was a huge paragraph about how they don't have enough clinical spots for all the students they are taking, and by accepting the spot in the program you are agreeing to be ok with the fact that you might not graduate in 5 semesters. Not good. Probably I will not accept for that reason alone.
