CSULB Fall 2012 BSN

Published

Hi!

I think the CSULB School of nursing recently post new pool statistics including those who were chosen for Fall 2011.

http://www.csulb.edu/colleges/chhs/departments/nursing/docs/PoolStatsFall11.pdf

Knowing that the rating average is 8.91/10, that seems like a huge difference than the previous semesters!

Anyone else planning to apply to CSULB Fall 2012 BSN program?

Hello all....

I was just wondering if most of you completed the pathos and pharm courses. If I am accepted this fall, I will not be able to complete these courses. I was reviewing the first semester courses and it looks like a heavy load, just wondering how tough the courses are, also I will not have completed Nutrition (but it's only one unit).

I was checking out some videos on youtube. I watch a male patient being cathetrized, it looked brutal! Hopefully watching these videos will help desensitized me.

Thanks for answering!

So that's just under 20%, and you guys are almost done. Did most of these people drop/fail during the first couple of semesters, or was it more recent? (the majority, i mean)

I haven't done them.

I might be able to do nutrition during the summer if my cc offers it, but my school is not listed under the CSULB approved patho and pharm courses on the website. And i don't have a car so i doubt i'll do them.

What do you mean you won't be able to complete them?

It's going to be a difficult transition, but if we get in, I'm sure we could do it if we work hard enough.

It most definitely will be a difficult transition, but I think we will all be more motivated once we are in the program. I'm tired of taking courses not related to nursing! I probably took 10 or more classes that I didn't need, and especially this semester since I finished my pre-reqs and none of the classes I am taking count towards the nursing program. But it's okay, I finally applied and that's all that matters :) Hopefully we will all be in a nursing program in the Fall and won't have to wait any longer.

Why did you take courses you didn't need? I still need to take pharm/patho because my school wouldn't let me take it (restricted) =( I think we'll all be okay though... just a lot of studying!

Btw happy valentine's day!

Happy Valentines Day everyone! Don't forget that tomorrow is the last day to turn in applications.

LOL, during this past week, this thread has seen so many new posters! ;)

@BeachsideNic- I didn't know they gave preferences to veterans. Anyway, I hope your semester is going well so far. Have you had your first exams yet? How do your classes compare to your nursing classes? How do you like the teachers you have? How are your care-plans coming along? Please keep us all posted on how your semester is going as we all nervously wait for our results.

There is a Veteran's Bolus Group that is funded partially by the VA and it is a small percentage of our total class. Nobody should have any problem with that considering how much our veterans do for us.

We have our first round of exams this week, and we also had our first direct patient care experience yesterday in the hospital... Needless to say, it's a crazy hectic week. The teachers are nothing short of exceptional...All of them are committed to the students in a way i never thought imaginable. I am learning so much and glad that I paid attention in my pre-requisites, because you are assumed to understand basic anatomy, physiology, and microbiology...There is no babying here.

We have not started care plans yet, since we are just getting oriented in the hospital, performing vital signs and talking to patients and electronic charting. We will begin to get into assessment and care plans over the next month. They are trying this as a new thing this semester with us...easing us into the hospital setting earlier instead of dropping you into the hospital later with care plans and passing meds all at once. I think it is a great idea, and I'm glad that it's being done this way, especially for those of us who have limited hospital and direct patient experience.

Expect to study... a lot... there is so much reading, it can be overwhelming, but it is doable... I love the information, and i love the challenge... I'm crossing my fingers for all of you, and hope to meet some of you at the interviews, since I will be there helping out with CNSA (California Nursing Student Association).

With regards to Patho and Pharm... I STRONGLY recommend you take at least PHARM before beginning first semester. I took it online at Santa Barbara City College (course is completely online), and it was the best thing I've ever done. I am auditing the Pharm class here at CSULB just to get a good handle on the material as it related to nursing, but I don't have to take any of the tests or do the assignments. This mean I have one exam this week instead of two... HUGE difference. Trust me... get pharm out of the way. Take Nutrition online too if you can (available at Long Beach City College). The more you can free your time for Patho and Nursing 200, the better off you will be.

Well, back to the books... feel free to ask any more questions... Good luck!

@ms.chia. I had to take courses to get units and fill up my schedule as I was taking the pre-reqs for the nursing program. With all the impaction, it took me awhile before I could even get into my first science course so I ended up taking other courses while waiting to get in.

@BeachsideNic thanks for the heads up about the pharm and nutrition course. I did not know you can take the nutrition class online. I wanted to look into schools with Pharm in the summer but most don't have schedules up for it yet. Good luck on your exams!

And the waiting begins!

Exactly. May the odds be ever in our favor...

I wonder how many applicants they got!
