Hi!
I think the CSULB School of nursing recently post new pool statistics including those who were chosen for Fall 2011.

Knowing that the rating average is 8.91/10, that seems like a huge difference than the previous semesters!
Anyone else planning to apply to CSULB Fall 2012 BSN program?
You can attend CSULB and do their psych major there so you wouldn't have to transfer. If you do your major somewhere else, then you will have to apply to the school all over again. Why not apply to ADN programs as back up? Don't waste $$ getting a bachelors in a field you don't truly want to pursue. Thats is my advice. Good luck!
But I heard that if I attend csulb as another major, they don't allow you to apply to the nursing program. The reason why I dont want to apply to an ADN program is because I want to ultimately be a Nurse practitioner. I want to take the fastest route possible. If I go to another school and get a bachelors in another field, I plan on doing an entry level masters program in nursing right after.
Dark Blue you have a good point about getting a job and yes I AM BROKE! Lol. I am just not sure how I will be able to handle both, so I will probably get a job my second semester after I am able to get a true feel for the program. I don't think Sallie Mae is a private loan. Private loans are though banks like Wells Fargo and other not so well know institutions.
Miss Mylie,
Like you I am also a transfer student. I am not sure if you have completed all of your prereqs (soc 1, nutrition, Pathophysio, life span, and pharmacology,) if not, I recommend you complete those courses if you are not selected this fall, pref at a CC, so that you save money. If you have completed them then just take a PE course (usually 1 unit) at your current school until you get accepted into a program. I agree, ADN would probably be a waste of time for your education plan.
I went to a transfer workshop at my cc last semester, the speaker said it is much easier to transfer to a four year from a community college rather than transferring from one four year to another. My other suggestion is that you speak to a transfer counselor prior to making a decision. Hope this helps.
So you want to be an NP eh? I would recommend to get some bedside experience first though, hence the ADN route. But if your bent on becoming an NP right away, that is good! I guess ADN would be waste of time then. The experience is invaluable, just something to think about. Anywho. I still stand by staying at CSULB and finishing the psych major there. Then applying to their entry level MSN program or something. It seems you are determined to do your nursing at CSULB, which is good, but I am wondering why. There are plenty of other up to par nursing program regardless to which type of program you end up entering. Best advice is to apply as many places as you can. As many BSN programs and once your get you BS/BA in something else, apply to as many MSN programs as possible. Dont put all your eggs into CSULB. They have a history of screwing the most determined students, (look at last falls thread, no warning!).
Victor: yes I am poor too, so i guess its good that I am getting disqualified any day now because I would have to work at least 2 days a week, 12 hour shifts to barely support my broke ass. Seems like CSULB program is the hardest at the beginning. I didn't mean for you to work right away, like I meant to work your last year there of something.
Ya know?
Sallie Mae IS a company for private student loans...

All you want to know about Student Loans as well as a list of Banks that give them. Consider a cosigner...you may need one.
Good Luck!
Thanks for the responses Victor 3397 and DarkBluePhoenix. DarkBlue, I have to put all my eggs into one basket at csulb because I have 2 kids and the only support I have is in Long Beach. I passed the deadline for CSULA and I don't want to wait another year so I can apply. Victor 3397, I have not taken Pharmacology and Pathophysiology yet and I do plan on taking those if I don't get into the program. You stated that its harder to transfer from one CSU to another and that is what I am hearing also from other students. I will definitely talk to my transfer counselor about this. Also, I don't want to get my psych degree at CSULB because its such an impacted campus and I highly doubt I can graduate with a bachelors in 2 years. Well, I guess I have another month to see if I get an interview or not and I will make a decision then. Again, thanks for the input!
Miss Mylie: You will be fine! I bet you will get accepted. Dont you doubt yourself now! As for kids and such, an ADN program would make it easier for you. As for CSULB, there is other CSUs around, like CSUSB around and CSUF. It sucks that you have to apply to the schools so early that by the time you think you should have applied to more, then your screwed. There is always private schools to get your BSN at too.
Victor: Aw you dont know my story. Kind of confusing, I have written it out earlier in this thread but I will update you. So you know when you read the brochure, how it says, in bold red no less, "only looks at first GE taken." Well that wasn't there when I was in the process of taking classes over, well, different classes. See, I took that dumb english critical thinking years ago and got a C. Bummer, so last summer I take philosophy logic and get an A, I also take stats and get an A to replace the trig I took when I got a B (the same time I took english). Well I figure, I have 2 As and 2 Bs in my GEs for CSULB. Well that year they decided to change the rules and take the C and B over the As and thereby disqualifying my ass.
So after all that hard work of getting those classes, paying for them, and acing them, it was to no avail. They will take the lower grades regardless. To me, that is BS. Come on, I just wasted time, $$ and energy. But whatever. A friend of mine roots for me and says to apply anyway, put the A classes on there and hope for the best. I am not hoping for much.
As for working in healthcare, why yes I do. I am a CNA at hospital in a combo medical-surgical and telemetry setting. And boy have I learned a lot! You can totally tell what nurses know what by how they treat the CNA's, patients etc...You also learn about all the charting that goes into everything, the meds, orders etc.. In my freetime (I work 6pm-630am) which I dont get a lot of, I look at my patients charts and their histories, etc...I have developed a pretty good bedside manner which, I hope will help me in the long run. But by the looks of things, doesnt seem like I will make it into a program only because it is based on a technicality. I mean I have aced all the sciences but that just isn't good enough, neither is apparently doing good on the TEAS. Oh well life isn't fair....
DarkBlue I did the same thing for a course pre-req and I still didn't make it onto CSULA because of that. Granted, my GPA was still 3.4 but not good enough because the A I got the second time would have given me a little bit more of an advantage. Glad to hear you're keeping your head up!
Sometimes I get so burnt out doing just a 11p-730a shift in my SNF I can't image doing a 12 hour shift unless I volunteered for overtime. Don't get me wrong, I love the staff and residents but sometimes forcing my body to go against biological norm for sleep can be detrimental!
Victor Sallie Mae is a private loan company. I know because my friend took out a loan from them! There's no shame in getting a private loan - just gotta be smart about it. My friend regrets getting the loan and owes hundreds of dollars every month just to make sure he doesn't default.
MissMylie have you thought about the ADN-Masters Pathway for UCSF? You have to get a Bachelor's Degree at one of their satellite schools... errr "educational partners" in a certain time frame and then qualify for spots on the MS UCSF School of Nursing Program (like NP). I was considering this but it's not within my time frame with living in SF for now. Eventually, I'd love to do the NP program at UCSF or USF.
Oh same thing happened to you? This just sucks! Why cant they take the better grade?!?!?!
Yes the long over night hours are brutal sometimes. I am finding that I cant fall asleep early anymore. I used to hit the sack, because of school, around 9-10. Now that I have been working nights, I fall asleep like 12a-2am easy. Not even tired around my old bedtime. Ugh such a killer.
I just got put into full time, so I will be working 3 nights easily, anything over that is overtime. This is going to be interesting.

In need of advice! So I want to be prepared if I don't get into the nursing program. I will be done with all prerequisites with an associates in health science by the end of spring. If I don't get into the nursing program this fall, I don't want to waste a semester by waiting so I plan on going to a different CSU as a pscyh major. BUT I still plan on applying again to csulb for spring of 2013. Will csulb deny me of admission because I am already attending another CSU? I hope this makes sense and any information or advice would be helpful!
