CSULA Fall 2021

Published

Hi all!
I just wanted to create this forum for students who are applying to CSULA Fall 2021 for the BSN Nursing track in case we had questions for each other, wanted to share thoughts, stats and to support each other through this journey.

I was wondering if anyone has applied and knew if CSULA requires verification for volunteer hours in their NursingCAS application portion? Also, will they accept any amount of volunteer hours under 50? I know you can add a document. Thank you!

You have great stats! Is CSULA your first choice? Are you applying to other CSU's as well?

Hey! CSULB is my first pick but I’m a little afraid that my reading score is holding me back (they only look at composite and reading from the TEAS) but other than that, SDSU and CSUSM. And you?

I’m curious if the Covid-19 situation had an effect on the applicant pool statistics to be better or worse than previous years but crossed fingers that we all get into our desired program ??

Hi! For the CAS Nursing application. Do upload any certificate or anything for the volunteer section? Or do we just put in the hours? how does that work?

It is preferred that you upload a letter confirming your hours from a coordinator.

Hi! I am a pre-nursing student and I am planning to apply. I have a GPA of 3.7 , TEAS score of 67% and I am worried that I might not get into the program. For those admitted to the csula nursing program right now, what was your GPA and TEAS core when you applied? I'm thinking if I should apply to other nursing programs if my GPA and TEAS score is not competitive enough.

What's your pre-req GPA? Do you have volunteer hours / work experience? I know schools usually look into that as well!

Hi everyone,

I'm going back and forth on applying, did anyone else read that you can only apply one time?? Apparently this was just changed October of this year. I'm super scared of "wasting" my one shot, especially after messing up part of the TEAS (75 in English with 87, 90, and 89 in the other sections ?) which brought my overall score to 86%. I don't have enough time to retake before the deadline.

My cGPA is 3.84 and I think my prereq GPA is at 3.76 if I'm using the right classes for the calculations (Anatomy, Chem, English Comp, Stats)

I have nearly 700 hours as an EMT (4 months) and a year of experience working in a substance abuse rehab facility. I live locally and would be getting preference from the CC I attended. I have lots of community related volunteer work (not healthcare) but I'm not sure I should include that...

What do you guys think?? Should I apply knowing my stats aren't the best and take the chance? ? thank you to anyone who responds and BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE!

Yes, we can only apply once, but I also read how you can reapply if you end up on their waitlist. I feel like you should do what you feel is best as for applying or not. Also, you sound very worried/nervous (which is understandable since it's very competitive!), but just know if one door closes, there will be other options to reach your ultimate goal of becoming a nurse!

One shot is all anyone has. Those great stats and I hear at times you never know what they take like I heard someone with 70 over all TEAS get in. You just never know what it holds. So many factors play into it and it’s all chance really. You can have a great GPA and lack one area and get denied or have subpar GPA and great stats in another area and get in. It’s Russian roulette essentially. You just gotta believe in yourself and your hard work you put in. Don’t think about if I don’t get in or other things cuz your gonna down yourself into thinking you have no shot. Think positive cuz you never know what other people have when they apply. Go for it and roll with it.

Being honest, I’m not sure how they can even track that. They said you could only apply one time last year as well.... but someone in my cohort applied twice and got in so ??‍♀️

Was he on the waitlist the year before? I read that you can reapply only if you were on the waitlist.

Thank you so much for the kind words~

You're so right. I feel hesitant about my stats but I'll never know if I don't at least try. Fingers crossed!

Thank you! I definitely should be thinking more positively, after all it really is a gamble without knowing every detail of the application review. Hoping for the best! ?

Exactly. I’m applying with a 3.79 overall GPA, prerequisites GPA of 3.71 (7 of 8 total classes excluding micro), TEAS 74.7%(crappy yeah but oh well, can’t afford to take another 100+ buck exam), and 101 hrs of volunteer work at a hospital. I’m from Mt sac which is close by but sadly not considered local preference to CSULA. I’m just rolling with and whatever happens happens
