CSULA Fall 2021

Published

Hi all!
I just wanted to create this forum for students who are applying to CSULA Fall 2021 for the BSN Nursing track in case we had questions for each other, wanted to share thoughts, stats and to support each other through this journey.

I was wondering if anyone has applied and knew if CSULA requires verification for volunteer hours in their NursingCAS application portion? Also, will they accept any amount of volunteer hours under 50? I know you can add a document. Thank you!

Hello again! I had another question. This fall do you know what classes us pre nursing students would be taking besides the nursing program prerequisites? Like along the prerequisites will we be taking other general education classes?

So for pre-nursing you would take prereqs alongside general ED classes. You can honestly choose any of the GEs to take during fall.

You'll get information in regards to what GE's to take in your orientation. But here's the roadmap from the nursing school website that shows the recommended GE's to take each semester: https://www.calstatela.edu/sites/default/files/groups/Patricia A. Hello,

I have a 3.8 GPA plus with a TEAS score of 81. I would want to apply for Spring 2022 though I have some questions regarding doing that. What are all the classes needed for CSULA regarding prerequisites and is volunteering hours recommended or mandatory? And if it's mandatory, how many hours and does it matter which facility where I volunteer in? Does anyone know if the info section is coming up or when so I can attend.

Nursing Applications are only open for Fall at CSULA. If you want to apply for Spring, you can apply to any other majors though for CSULA.

If you want to get into the nursing program do not apply to another major at CSULA, that automatically means you can’t apply to the nursing program as you would need to be a pre-nursing CSULA student or a transfer student to apply.

You can apply as a student for the Spring semester but not for the nursing program. The nursing program always starts in the fall.

does this apply to every cal state nursing program?

Every cal state nursing program is different. I suggest looking at each of the cal state's nursing websites, where they say if they offer admission in the Fall or Spring, or even both. I know that Cal State Long Beach offers it both in the Spring and Fall, so you should check their website.

Regarding your other questions, volunteering is not mandatory and it is just optional for Cal State LA. Although it's optional you should still do it, everyone I know who didn't have hours got rejected. Having hours increases your likelihood of admission. For the prereqs and general ED info, you can Google it for each cal state.

Also, I recommend you retake the TEAS, just to get a higher score! ?

do you have to be a student and a pre nursing major in their school in order to apply?

Are you a transfer student? If so, you just apply as a transfer and don't need to be a pre-nursing major because that is a different pathway only for students who are admitted straight after high school.

You do not need to already be a student in the school in order to apply. Whenever the time comes for when you want to apply to the nursing program, you just apply to both the actual school on Cal State Apply plus apply to their nursing program on NursingCAS.
