Hi all!
I just wanted to create this forum for students who are applying to CSULA Fall 2021 for the BSN Nursing track in case we had questions for each other, wanted to share thoughts, stats and to support each other through this journey.
I was wondering if anyone has applied and knew if CSULA requires verification for volunteer hours in their NursingCAS application portion? Also, will they accept any amount of volunteer hours under 50? I know you can add a document. Thank you!

I also have a question about taking AP classes in high school. For the pre nursing students at CSULA did passing any of the AP tests count for credit for any specific classes that were required to take? For example right now I’m taking AP Environmental Science, AP stats, AP literature, AP Gov/ AP Econ, and I’ve already taken AP language and AP US history. I’ve looked at the Nursing BSN program roadmap pdf with all the classes and most of my current AP’s aren’t in the program roadmap. Would this mean taking all these AP tests wouldn’t really matter since they aren’t classes listed on the class roadmap for nursing?
For my AP classes they credit it for me. I took AP Psychology and AP Bio and they both gave me college credits. Even if it doesn't cover your pre-nursing pre reqs it might over your general ED which makes your class load lighter! I know stats is a pre-req for nursing, while Econ/lit/lang/history might cover a GE.
Does anyone know where I can get volunteer experience? To those who were pre nursing students at CSULA, did you start to volunteer when you were a senior in high school? And for anyone, before volunteering, did you need to Interview at all or was it simple to sign up and just volunteer at a local hospital. I’m just curious so I can start volunteering and getting in my hours?

As a pre nursing student at CSULA, I started volunteering when I was in high school, and luckily I was able to submit those hours as they met the cutoff. I believe there were instructions that stated you could only submit hours that date back to 1-2 years ago. If you start accumulating hours now and apply for the program in the fall they should count. As for any previous interviews before volunteering, I remember having to do a phone call interview when I volunteered at Kaiser, after I submitted my application. However, this was just my experience at one hospital, so I'm sure you'll have to look into the requirements and application process at your respective hospital.
Most people I know got their volunteer hours at local hospital, but I think volunteering at clinic or something similar should be fine, as long as it involves some sort of patient care (giving water, blankets or feeding, etc) and a person to write a letter confirming your hours and services.

They’re gonna provide all the information at orientation. If you’re a transfer student you’ll have 2 orientations, the one for the nursing program will tell you everything you need to know and provide you with the handbook and rules. You’ll also get an email with all the courses you need to enrol in.

Does anyone know how the 2022 applicants for the 3yr-Nursing program will get volunteer hours if there is no place open due to covid?
I think it's because the situation of covid is still uncertain for now. I suggest calling back once California "reopens", which is in June according to Governer Gavin Newsom.

No problem! Your AP stats covers the math. The reason it says math/econ is because you can take the same stats course under the econ department instead of the math department but it’s the same course.
