CSULA FALL 2020

Published

Hello. I wanted to create this forum for people who are applying to Cal State Los Angeles for Fall 2020. This is a place where we can discuss and compare statistics between us, as well as ask questions regarding the program. Thank you and good luck to you all!

yeah supposedly. I didn't want to take any chance so I paid the 100s.

Got ya. It's crazy out here so I totally understand.

I called and asked if I can change my mind after paying the 100 deposit to secure my spot. they said yes but that the 100 wouldn't be refundable. They cant find out as the cal states don't have an integrated system between them all. If you're worried I would just pay the deposit. I did because times are crazy and come hell or high water I'm getting into a program.

@theealexmartin OMG thank you so much! I googled it and read some article saying you could have both offers rescinded if they somehow find out, which I thought was a little harsh. Thank you for sharing that with me! I’ll pay the 100$ and if I get accepted at LB I’ll sit in for the orientation to see if I am placed in trimester or semester. I would make my decision basically right after orientation as to not take up someone’s spot in the waiting list. ? I appreciate this! Thank you

You guys ... I am in utter disbelief ... I wrote a letter of appeal and they emailed me today saying they have decided I am ADMITTED for FALL 2020???? I’m shaking RN...

OMG CONGRATULATIONS! That is amazing! ? This is exactly what happened to me! Are you going to accept the offer? I can't believe this happened to both of us ???

Anyone else find it weird that this happened to us? Being denied at first and then admitted after advocating for ourselves? My application was very impressive and low key better than a lot of the other people who got accepted, so I was so upset when I learned I got denied. All I had to do was send one email stating my stats and asking why they denied me... and with no explanation they were like “siiiikkkeee you’re admitted!!” I was like ???????? Lmao. Did they ever give you an explanation? I wanna ask them why this happened to me, but I also don't want to press my luck, so I'm just accepting the fact that I'm admitted LOL.

Did you actually send the appeal? Or did you just talk to SON directly like I did? I’m kinda annoyed that they were so unorganized with the applications. I was deeply depressed for a whole day and a half, and for your case it’s been almost a week! I’m sure you are very happy now, but it’s not fair to put us thru that depression in the beginning... They need to figure their sh*t out, foreal LOL. Either way CONGRATULATIONS! WE ARE GOING TO BE NURSES!???

"Closed mouths don't get fed!" Congratulations! I'm super happy for you. By chance, are you from the Caribbean?

Hi everyone! I'm glad there's a transparent forum here! To anyone checking out this thread, they've started accepting as of the second week of March!

Does anyone know if current events will affect our education/clinicals?

Accepted w/:

Cumulative GPA: 4.0

Science GPA: 4.0 *all coreqs done

Nursing/PreReq GPA: 4.0

TEAS Overall: 90.7

PCE: 800 hours total, for CSULA I put one experience as an ER/clinic volunteer for 400 hours

THANK YOU ?@ninja1968

I poured my heart and soul into a formal appeal letter, instead of asking the SON directly just to be safe. CSULA is my dream program and I waited over a year out of school just to get the chance to apply, so I was not going down without a fight LOL. You're right though... makes me wanna call and say "ME? are you sure??!" I'm wondering the explanation for this as well, but also just so happy/grateful that I'm in and don't want to push my luck asking haha.

My letter said something around the lines of,

your appeal was reviewed by the decision community and it was decided that you are to be accepted in the Fall 2020 BSN.. and that admissions have been notified of the change...

@CocoaQueen Thank you so much! ? and no I'm not, born and raised in LA!

Can't wait to meet you all!! We all worked so hard to get where we are ❤️

Thats amazing! It’s totally worth it to contact SON or appeal the decision. Did you go in person? I emailed ------------------------ from the SON directly and the next day she responded:

“Your application was re-reviewed by the decision committee. You will receive a reversed decision from the Cal State LA Admission Department. Thank you for your inquiry and congratulations.“

Then I checked my portal and it said Admitted and to send transcripts. 2 days later I got a new email saying I was admitted. Crazy-ness. I wonder if they just miss people’s applications or if they just randomly pick people... so strange LOL. I thought they only pick 70 people so I find it weird that they accept people after contacting them... are you accepting the offer? Or are your waiting on a different echool

I'm excited to meet you all too! During your first semester at CSULA, all lectures are on the same day and possibly your health assessment lab too, but most sections are on other days of the week. After the first sem, you'll be on campus 1 day a week, and 1 day for clinicals off-campus (with the exception of your 4th sem of nursing school). During orientation, you're given a list of clinical sites and you can pick your top 3, but in the end, it's the nursing faculty that choose your clinical site and day. Each clinical site has their designated day, and clinicals are from 7:00-4:00. Of course, this time frame varies by professor because some will require you to come earlier than 7:00 so you can have the opportunity to take vital signs or hear SBAR reports. Having a social life and working is definitely possible yet difficult — but it's all about time management! If you do work, I suggest working part-time only...faculty recommended no more than 20 hours a week for us. I found it really hard to be frequently in touch with my friends outside of nursing school, but on the bright side, you'll make nursing friends you'll spend a lifetime with and who'll understand what you're going through ? Most of my time outside of nursing classes and studying were spent at work or in nursing clubs (and leadership positions associated with them).

Hey:), I was wondering how many days of the week you went to CSULA for classes during your first semester?

For me, I had 2 lecture classes on Tuesday, my health assessment lab on Monday, and my clinical on Saturday on campus for a few to several weeks. Some of my classmates had to campus about the same number of times as I did, and several had their health assessment lab the same day as lectures and only came to campus 1-2 times a week.

Hi Jenny! Can you provide any insight? Is it worth applying for? How does it work for Nursing majors? @jennittoo

I'm not too sure because I'm not in the Honors program, but I have heard that every student has to write a thesis in their last year. Some benefits for it are that you can put it in your resume, you get some medallion during graduation, and you get priority registration -- meaning you can register for classes before everyone else. But if you're in the nursing program, you don't need to worry about "saving" a spot; the only main concern is for upper division classes, co-requisites, etc.

I see, thank you!

What about scholarship opportunities? That’s the only reason I applied for it...
