CSULA Fall 2016 Nursing (BSN)

Updated:   Published

I realize it may be early, but I wanted to start a thread for the CSULA Fall 2016 nursing program hopefuls. I'm sure we will all have a lot of questions, especially because of the upcoming semester conversion. I have plenty of questions about application deadlines, volunteer hours, TEAS, etc. It will be nice to have a community where we can ask each other questions and offer advice. Eventually we can share stats, and we may even end up in the same cohort!

If you have a GET account, go to self service, student center, search. Make sure it's under Fall Semester 2016 not Spring Quarter 2016.

Here's the link of the classes we have to take in order (based off prereqs and coreqs): http://www.calstatela.edu/sites/default/files/groups/College%20of%20Health%20and%20Human%20Services/Roadmaps/NURS/transfer_bsn_3yr_roadmap_semester.pdf

Here are the list of all the nursing classes (just match it with the classes listed on ur roadmaps) and the requirements and descriptions for each: Course Descriptions - California State University, Los Angeles - Acalog ACMS™

I'm wondering if we are free to take elective courses because I want to take EKG and palliative classes and they're not included in the program as a requirement.

We don't do clinicals until the spring when we do med/surge I together with pathophysio and pharmaco. We're only doing lab and practicums basically (just practicing on dummies, not real patients yet for fall.

Seems like they have clinicals first sem now cause Fundamentals it says there's clinical and it's scheduled like 7-1, 2-5pm. I might be wrong though!

I have a hard copy of the Nursing roadmap. Monica gave it to me when I met up with her one day like last year and CSULA doesn't start clinicals until Spring.

I really do wonder what's the deciding factor of who's waitlisted and who's accepted if the cutoff is 24. There seems to be a lot of waitlisted 24's compared to last year..

I know! Since I'm waitlisted I sent an email to M.L. to ask her if maybe my points were miscalculated. But I also think that there could be too many 24's and not all could be accepted because of limited spots. You know others who have a 24 and are waitlisted?

I feel bad emailing M.L. because the email I received indicating that I am waitlisted didn't come from her, but I don't know who else to talk to. Hopefully she tells me who I can speak to.

I know they do clinicals at Cedars

Thanks!

Do we have to be CPR certified to go into the program or? I saw that it's a requirement to have a current American Heart Association CPR card.

Yes, you're required to be CPR Certified for any nursing program. You're dealing with patients afterall. I just renewed mine through TheCPRHero.com . It'll cost you $67 for book + course. It'll be a one day (4 hour) course and you'll get your CPR card right after.

yeah I saw CSULA offering classes so I might have to check it out.

Does anyone know when nutrition has to be completed by? :)

How come our fundamentals of nursing clinical lab has an off campus portion?

Also, on the roadmap, they have the upper division GE in certain semesters. I wonder if that's negotiable? Also, how/when do we register for nursing classes? Do current students have priority over transfers or...?

Nutrition can be done during the program.
