CSULA Fall 2016 Nursing (BSN)

Updated:   Published

I realize it may be early, but I wanted to start a thread for the CSULA Fall 2016 nursing program hopefuls. I'm sure we will all have a lot of questions, especially because of the upcoming semester conversion. I have plenty of questions about application deadlines, volunteer hours, TEAS, etc. It will be nice to have a community where we can ask each other questions and offer advice. Eventually we can share stats, and we may even end up in the same cohort!

New system is supposed to be faster BUT Monica did not know anything about it. She did not know it takes about a month to process everything so since the deadline was January 14th, if I remember correctly, all application reviews technically don't start until February. Last year, acceptance letter came in April. Looks like it might come in April this year too. Just a couple more weeks, hang in tight ! I might give up my position if I get accepted into CSULB

The wait is torture, I ended up not going to long beach's exercise cause the commute would be two hours for me :( Csula commute is bad enough for me already lol. Hopefully it will improve for the next applicant pools.

I'm pretty sure that we have to receive our acceptance early to mid April because we have to make a deposit with the university by May 1. Just a few more weeks! Good luck with LB!

Ugh I think it's only 3 more weeks. CSULA is a commute for me too! Where do you live? :)

Hey everyone!

Have any of you toured CSULA yet? What is the school and its surrounding area like? How about the school's library, food court, etc??

I was thinking about driving down to LA soon and touring, possibly trying to see if I could talk to some current nursing students about their experience with the program.

I am getting so anxious waiting for the acceptance emails! :nailbiting: Haha

CSULA is my home campus. I don't have much positive things to say about CSULA just because I feel like standards aren't high enough for the school to be called a University. Dont get me wrong, the nursing school is hard to get into and it is one of the best nursing schools to go to... but im talking about the school in general. They have such a high acceptance rate that we have parking issues all the time. Sometimes it will take up to an hour and a half to find parking depending on what times your classes are.

I can say it isn't the best looking campus there is to offer. It isnt as big as other campuses. You can get from one end (of the actual campus) to the other in about 10-15 minutes. I can't really tell you much about certain aspects of different buildings unless you have a more specific questions. Food Court has El Pollo Loco, Carls, Rice Garden (Chinese fast food), Johnnys Kitchen (only good food), Sabarro (Italian), and a Kikka Sushi (Little sushi deli). We got some things that are not in the food court area like Starbucks, Juice It Up (similar to Jamba), University Cafe (dine-in restaurant with overpriced food; foods quality is average), Salazar Hall Cafe and King Coffee (quick breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc.) And of course we got the Bookstore which pretty much has convinience store foods too.

Thanks for your honesty! What have you heard about the nursing program exactly? I'm glad you said it was a good program because I was unsure about it, considering I haven't heard much.

And yeah, I kind of expected the campus to be like that... Thankfully we will be doing clinicals most of the time, so our time on campus will be limited..

I've heard they have really good professors. Overall it's just something I've heard that CSULA and CSULB have the best nursing programs and those are the school's you should apply to. They do clinicals at Cedars and other hospitals as well. Both CSUs are basically known for their nursing programs. I know some UCs have nursing programs too but they aren't well known. I just don't know specifics

I've only been to one building for an informational meeting. I wonder if we get accepted, if there will be a new/transfer student orientation sort of thing for the university. I know one person who is currently in the program. I think a lot of things are going to change because of the quarter to semester conversion. I'm anxious waiting too!

P.S. you should share your points with us, so we can add you to the list!

So far I have calculated 23 points, w/o including points for Health Related Experience... I am unsure as to how they will score me for that portion... I was employed at a local hospital as a concierge, and before that, I was employed at my dentist's office. So hopefully I get some points for that past experience!

"Acceptable health care experience options include employment as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Respiratory Therapist (RT), Psychiatric Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA),

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assistant (MA)."

I think it's either 3 points or nothing or if you volunteer either 1 or 2 points
