I posted this in the California forum, but I think it got lost so I'm posting it here!
Who here is applying for the CSULA nursing program for Fall 2014? What are your stats? Have you taken the TEAS exam yet? I'm excited!
I have not taken the TEAS yet, but have my date scheduled for Oct. 25th.
No. I go to LA Mission. But I was reading the graduation requirements for CSULA. It stipulates that all Bachelor Degrees from the school require that the student take Eng 102 to complete. Do you mean the Philosophy (Logic in Practice) Or English? It was a super easy A at Mission College. The professor is an old hippie guy that hates the system...lol I took it because I didn't want to take Eng 102, and it filled the prereq for the nursing program.[/quote']I took eng 2 scholars and that was a piece of cake.... But logic kicked my butt haha the philosophy class is also a requirement for the nursing program too
English 102 is required and it's just English. Taken only after you have English 101 credit. In order to get points for CNA/EMT do you have to actually work or can you just get the license?[/quote']Yeah you have to work but it's ok because if I don't get in this year I'll use the extra point next year. The cna(as with anyone who is in the healthcare field) will give me an advantage with skills and poop and other things we will encounter our first couple semesters.
The point system is pretty straight forward. Why are both of you unsure of your points? Here is the link

If you are still unsure, answer these, and I will tell you what you got...
1. 6 Prereq GPA (Chem, Anat, Physio, Eng, Psych, Critical Thinking)
2. Overall GPA
3. TEAS - English Individual Percentile rank
4. TEAS - Reading Individual Percentile rank
5. Bachelors Degree/Previous Paid Experience/Previous Volunteer Experience

I just have a word document with all my applied to schools. Has each school's deadlines, and each of my student id #'s, passwords, and application scores. I guess I'm a little over anxious....lol
28/31 @ CSULA
9.625/10 @ CSULB
28/41 @ CSUCI
I lose a crap-ton of points at CSUCI cause I don't speak spanish, I am not a continuing student, and I am not a Ventura county resident....
That stuff should not count against you for an educational program. It should be about your grades and experience....
....sux baaaaaaaaallls

Which one is your top choice?
I know how to calculate overall points for CSULA but there's always that what if feeling. Lol waiting is driving us nuts.
Well each has pros and cons for me:
If money and distance were not an issue, I would choose CSUCI. Nicest campus, best location. However, from what I have read, it is quite expensive. I don't have the option/money to relocate for school, so the drive is pretty far for me as well from LA.
Long beach is also a BEAUTIFUL campus. The program is well recognized. AND the biggest bonus is that they grade on straight ABCDF scale. no +/- system (which can screw your GPA) The drive there for me is about 25-30 minutes. Which is not that bad. I think they are a little more expensive than CSULA, but cheaper than Channel Islands.
CSULA is the closest and cheapest of the three options. I can get there on my motorcycle in about 10 minutes, even with bad traffic. But the campus is but ugly, and I hate LA. I would like to get out of here for school. But I suppose I can wait till i'm a high paid RN to relocate....lol
But in the end. I will go wherever accepts me. My bed chances are with LA or LB. and I would probably choose LA for convenience. The quick commute would be nice.
