I posted this in the California forum, but I think it got lost so I'm posting it here!
Who here is applying for the CSULA nursing program for Fall 2014? What are your stats? Have you taken the TEAS exam yet? I'm excited!
I have not taken the TEAS yet, but have my date scheduled for Oct. 25th.
I find it insulting that you "used to love to tell the CNA's and Nurses to drain the colostomy / illiostomy / g-tube / catheter bags"
Why is that insulting??
I didn't love to do it because I "enjoyed" making them do it… as some kind of cruel punishment…lol
I loved it, because I didn't have to do it… not in my "scope of practice" as an Emergency Medical Technician….
I don't see how that would insult anyone…

I read it the same way joanpant did, like you considered the task beneath you, so why would you be a nurse? Nurses do clean up crap. A male nurse in my hospital took it upon himself to clean up a c. dif diarrhea gush. I've gotten used to poop, solid, liquid or otherwise. There are worse fluids than poop.
What is your backup major?
They didnot allow me to send PM b/c I am new. So regarding ur question, they do use +/- grading scale. And I am sorry to tell you that most of our GPAs drop a lot after getting into nursing, even C, and few got F, too. I wish you do well, but do not focus too much on your GPA.

You all are projecting some serious stuff out here...lol
I never said it was beneath me. I said, i was happy to postpone the experience as long as possible.... That's why i loved NOT having to do it...
And if anyone wants to tell me that they are actually looking forward to cleaning feces and urine, i would probably not believe them (or think they were very strange)
I know very well what is expected of nurses/nursing students... I will do it too, my time will come.. And, I was very happy, and LOVED, to NOT do it as an EMT... Simple as that
Does that make me a bad person? ....lol
Jenn expressed a want to be a cna. I simply suggested something that may be more beneficial towards learning about medicine, getting crucial medical experience, and an overall more enjoyable experience than cleaning feces full time.... CNA is definitely a worse job that EMT, in my opinion.
I was running Code 3's constantly, lights/sirens, cpr, abdominal eviscerations, suicide attempts, PET team assistance, 911 assistance, heart attacks, strokes, and a bunch of other exciting experience... (there is down time too, of course)
And the CNA's I know, personally, were cleaning urine/feces off patients and passing out meals in busted old con-homes....
I think my experience was more valuable, but again, just my opinion.
I don't mean to offend people, but I'm not going to lie here, or sugar-coat it....I've seen it... I've worked in the field, and that's my take on it. CNAs get no love. It is one of the worst jobs in medical....
Hope that clears up any confusion about what my statement actually meant...
:)

Well, my GPA is always in focus...lol
I have been obsessed with keeping my 4.0, which is why i was hesitant about the A- possibility. However, the more research i do, the more I see people were accepted into my intended Masters program with 3.4-4.0.
I know i will average A-(3.7-3.8) at worst. I've never received a B, and I never intend to....lol
We all have to set our personal bar somewhere...

I can understand that, few people got B before getting into nursing, in the program, there are still 4.0 s even it requires 93+, it is possible, but for students dont want to go master's program, C is fine. As time goes on, we care less about the grades. B/c things can change, and u will never know. All the students got accepted are good, I mean at least 3.8 from last year; even so, we still have student fail, which we thought it will never happen in our lives. Do your best, anything is possible.

Lol first two semesters of nursing school= buttwiping!!!!
And as someone else who wants to be a anesthetist I know it'll be almost 5 years of buttwiping in a hospital (you need over 1500 hrs of critical care which won't be likely for a new nurse to get in that unit) before I can apply (I'm hoping for the usc program). So get used to the fact :) wiping butts is the number 1 reason people drop out of nursing school.
