CSULA ELMN Fall 2009???

Published

Hello! I was just wondering if anyone out there has applied to the CSULA ELMN program for Fall 2009? Maybe we can discuss what everyone's heard about their application, interviews, TEAS scores, etc.

:wink2:

congrats and good luck levoila!

so, is anyone else having issues with the university application? I sent my transcripts in a month ago, but it still says incomplete. When I call them, they said that they can't deal with me right now because they are doing spring apps. Do you think I should keep calling or let it slide for now? thanks in advance for any advice!

Gracias, puravida! Do you live in the LA area? If you do, why don't you order another set sent to your house and then walk them in to the Admissions office in person? That way you can get a receipt for them on the spot. The person that helped me said that it was the best way to turn in transcripts because of the large volume of freshmen transcripts they'd be getting.

I walked in my transcripts on the 19 of February. The Student Center page on the GET website does not list any "to-do's," but I do have an Admissions hold for Fall 2009. I called Admissions and they explained that that was just so I would submit my final Spring transcripts.

Did you have your interview already?

Thanks for the advice! No, I don't live in LA, so maybe I will try calling one more time before actually going there. I think I talked to a very overwhelmed person when I first called...

Yeah, I had my interview on Saturday. I am so happy to be done with interviews. They turn me into a stress ball. When is yours coming up, levoila?

If you're not from LA, then maybe try calling a few more times and hopefully someone will look it up or at least try to be helpful.

My interview is next Wednesday--I'm trying to get rid of all of this nervous energy by then. It's my one chance, I don't want to blow it :)

Levoila & others waiting for your interview...

I had my interview this morning. I was very nervous! Ms. Hinoki is very straightforward, but she's really nice. I got their early, so her assistant had me wait in a small conference room.

I'm not sure if she asks everyone the same things, but her questions were basically along the lines of why you're going into nursing, your experience in health care, and how you plan to handle the intensiveness of the first five quarters.

I actually asked if she were going to invite more people to interview, and she was a little ambiguous. But she reiterated that everyone will know if they are rejected, waitlisted or accepted by April 1st.

Good luck everyone!

:tku: just.fran!!! I am so nervous. I had an interview yesterday at CSUN and I was so nervous that whatever they said during the first few seconds was completly unintelligible to me--but then I managed to pull it together.

Do you remember how long your interview lasted? Did she mention how many people she would be putting on the waiting list? Two more weeks until we know--I hope we all make it!

Good luck, everyone!!

I was kind of the opposite: I started off really comfortable, then I got really nervous, but thankfully I calmed down toward the end. Ms. Hinoki is nice, but I was just a little anxious.

I think the interviews are usually around 30-45 minutes, but mine was about 50 minutes. She had an interview scheduled right after mine, so I could tell she was moving things along towards the end.

If I'm not mistaken, there will be probably 2 people on the waitlist. But I think a lot will depend on how the rest of the interviews go.

I'm sure you'll do just fine! My advice is to just relax and be yourself! I hope you can get some good sleep before Wednesday -- I kept having funky dreams about nursing all this week!

Hey! I also just interviewed at CSULA and was wondering if anyone could help me out with some questions I had about the ELMSN program...I would really appreciate your help :)

1. Are you able to switch NP specialties if your interests change before the second year of the program? I applied for Pediatrics, which i think is what i want to specialize in now, but I realize my interests might change after clinicals and a year of nursing school.

2. When you work during the 2nd and 3rd year of the program, I just assumed that it was your responsibility to find paid part-time work on your own (assuming u pass NCLEX), but I just wanted to check. I've also heard that hospitals sometimes pay for students tuition. Whats the case for CSULA?

3. How are the onsite lab facilities at CSULA? Do they have bedside labs or dolls to practice on? When I interviewed I didnt get to see any of the facilities or labs.

Thanks again!

Hi, I asked Prof. Hinoki, and she said yes, you can choose your specialty after pre-licensure segment.

Also you have to find part time job as a nurse. When I asked what were most difficult things that students faced in the program, that was one of the problems that she mentioned.

I don't know about lab facility.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for letting me know-- I appreciate it!

Does anyone know what are the differences between this program and the ones in CSULB and CSUF?

The CSULA ELMN program offers the following MSN specialties (from the ELMN application):

The following options are available every year:

____ Nursing Administration

____ Nursing Education

____ Nurse Practitioner (circle one)

Adult Primary Adult Acute Family

The options listed below are offered only when there are a sufficient number of interested students. If you are interested in one of these, you must also choose an option from the first group as a second choice:

_____ Nurse Practitioner (circle one)

Pediatric Primary Pediatric Acute Psych‐mental health

_____ Psych/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist

CSULB's EL-BSN/MSN leads to a BSN and the Clinical Nurse Specialist MSN with the possibility of transitioning into various post-master's specialites.

CSUF leads to a MSN with a Clinical Nurse Leader concentration. CSUF offers MSN concentrations in Women's Health, School Nursing, Nursing Leadership, and Nurse Anesthetist, but I'm not sure if you have to reapply or if you can transition into one of them. I believe that the EL-MSN is just to become a Clinical Nurse Leader.
