CSULA ELMN Fall 2009???

Published

Hello! I was just wondering if anyone out there has applied to the CSULA ELMN program for Fall 2009? Maybe we can discuss what everyone's heard about their application, interviews, TEAS scores, etc.

:wink2:

eeeeeeeeee:down:..

I'm so happy!! I finally got an interview invitation :clpty:via email this afternoon :D

I had already given up hope! So I guess she is having at least a third round of interviews...did anyone else hear anything today?

I hope everyone's interviews went well today--any advice??

Congrats!! That gives me hope too cuz I was 99% sure it was over. I'm so happy for you! When is your interview?

Hi guys,

I am currently a Child Development Major Right now and debating

whether or not to pursue a double major Health Science at CSUF. If I

pursue the double major with Health Science, will I have a better

advantage to getting in to the Entry Level Masters in Nursing Program?

Or will it not make a difference? I wanted to ask because I

am due to graduate this semester, but just wanted to know if doing a

double major in Health Science would give me step up in being accepted

or any advantage. Thank you for your time.

jbaclig,

I do not think that a double major in Health Science will give you an advantage getting into the ELMN program as it is a program designed for those with an undergraduate degree unrelated to the health sciences. However, if the major requires you to do classes that happen to be the prerequisites for the ELMN program, then yes, it will be an advantage because you have to do those prerequisites to get into the ELMN program anyway...that's my :twocents:

Thanks LovinNP! After reading your post on Friday--I also thought it was over. I then called Kathy to find out if that was really it, but got her voicemail. I left a message and when she didn't call back, I felt an overwhelming sense of doom.

I felt so helpless. Here was this thing that I wanted to be a part of more than anything and I couldn't bear the fact that I didn't even get the chance to interview. I know that I did everything I could possibly think of to make myself a stronger candidate and it was just so hard to accept that this decision that would have a big impact on my future was completely out of my hands. So then I decided to email her and she responded the next day with very unexpected great news. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too ;)

jbaclig:

I suggest you contact the department. During the Fall they offered walk-in advising a few days a week. The information session was also very informative and Dr. Wickman was very patient with all of our questions. I emailed Melanie Pyles a few times (as Dr. Wickman suggested at the info session), but didn't have much luck getting a response. There is another thread for CSUF that you might want to look into. You might try asking the students that got interviews whether or not they majored in the sciences. I don't have the impression that the specific major matters, but then again I didn't get an interview for CSUF, so you're better off asking the department and students that made the first cut. Just in case you don't know, the number of students accepted into the Fall 2009 cohort was cut in half due to budget cuts, so I recommend applying to more than just that one program. Good Luck!

Congrats levoila! That's great news!

To those who are still waiting...remember, it's not over until it's over. You haven't gotten a rejection letter, have you? Well, then you are still in the running! Most people are applying to more than one school, and CSULA isn't everyone's first choice. Just hang in there! We won't know anything for sure until April 1st.

And just to encourage you, there are MANY ways to get your MSN. Even if you don't get into CSULA ELMN program, you can still do a BSN or A-BSN (12 months) and then apply for the normal MSN (2-3 years). It will only be a difference of a few months.

(Also, I hope this doesn't come across too harshly, but if you are one of those people who have been accepted in multiple programs and are waiting to hear from other programs, please be a little compassionate to those who are on the waitlists. If you know you're not going to accept, let them know ASAP so they can give the spot to someone else, I can understand the importance of having a safety school, but more than one is a little excessive!)

Congratulations levoila!!! I'm so happy for you!!! Maybe we'll be classmates! :)

Thanks just.fran and ZooGurl! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us

Thank you! I just interviewed on Saturday and it wasn't bad at all. I was nervous but Ms. Hinoki is so nice that she really made me feel very comfortable.

Best of luck! You will be amazing!!!!

Ahhh! I'm so excited/anxious!!

In this season of interviews, I thought I'd share this helpful link. These articles give some good advice, as well as sample questions, to prepare for your interviews. Even if you haven't gotten your interview invitation just yet, it can't hurt to spend time practicing!

You've probably already seen these, but for those who haven't, I thought I'd share this resource. My friends and family have been kind enough to role play with me these last few days!

When I met with Ms. Hinoki before, she said what makes a good candidate is someone who will work well together in a cohort. After interacting with folks on this thread (although not as much as some of you), I think you all are aces in my book. I would be very happy to be a nursing student with you (and if that's at CSULA, even better!).

And if not that, perhaps we'll be on the same unit or working in the same clinic some time down the line. Blessings and peace in this time of waiting!
