It may be a bit early, but I wanted to create this forum for all of us students who want to be accepted into CSULA's SON for Fall 2019. We can discuss the TEAS, pre-reqs, deadlines, points, CSU transfer procedures, etc. Let's do this!

Overall GPA - 4.0
Prerequisite GPA - 4.0
105 volunteer hours
TEAS overall - 87.3 (97th national percentile)
TEAS reading - 85.1% (85th national percentile)
TEAS English - 79.2% (86th national percentile)
thanks!
Hey! Here's your point breakdown (according to what I remember).
Overall GPA - 5 points
Prereq GPA - 10 points
Volunteer hours - 2 points (over 100 volunteer hours is a max of 2 points)
As for your TEAS scores, they're in the 85th and 86th national percentile so that's 4 points each.
So that would be 25 points. Since they took it off their website, I wonder if they changed the point system though.
Hey everyone! Here's my point breakdown:
Overall GPA: 4.0 (5 points)
Prerequisite GPA: 4.0 (10 points)
TEAS Reading: 91.5% - 95th national percentile rank (5 points)
TEAS English: 100% - 99th percentile rank (5 points)
Total: 25 points
However, I'm not sure if they reformatted the point system considering they took it down from their website.

Hi everyone!
It seems that they have taken down the point system page! I know from earlier this year that Ms. Florita said they were revamping it sooo...Idk what the update is on that.
I just submitted my application. I'm a bit worried that it's too late to send it in to get verified and everything? I recently got employed as a dental assistant so I waited till after I was off probation to ask them for a letter of employment verification for extra points for CSULA's program. Hopefully it doesn't take too long for my transcripts to be verified. I have everything else done though!
Good luck to everyone out there! I also noticed that CSULA's upped their potential applicant pool from like 300-500 students a year to 800-900! Crazy!

I submitted my application but I'm still curious as to what the point system is. Based on what I've seen on here I calculate my overall GPA, pre req GPA, Teas (reading and grammar? or also total score?) and volunteer experience.
However, I still haven't been able to get a letter of verification from where I volunteered but I saw that on NursingCAS it said "Once you have submitted, you will be able to add more documents if there are optional document uploads available to you" so I'm assuming that I can still submit my volunteer work verification, correct?

That's something to look into. I know that in order to get a spot at CSULA's testing site, I had to register way back in May! It's even scarier to know that that's how they weed out a majority of applicants. Hopefully we can all help each other out when the application opens!

hello cw4031,I am so sorry this is super late (totally forgot about this forum) but you probably already know this by now (again, I apologize, this past semester has been crazy, plus the fact we had applications-- pressure, stress, worry and all to do) but we didn't even have to worry about sending our scores from ATI to CSULA SON. We just had to upload our score reports onto nursingcas! (Which was a relief when I found out, *phew*)
I wish I had known that sooner so that I wouldn't have stressed myself out back then over nothing, haha! Good luck to you and to all of us applying!
hi everyone,
Has anyone been able to get ahold of the nursing department? Or have any information specifically regarding CSULA applicants and the transcript deadline? On the FAQs page, it states that the SON recognizes the verified date (of transcripts) as the date received.
However, due to CSULA delaying the release of Fall 2018 grades, everything was pushed back and the earliest transcripts could be sent was a week before the application deadline. I sent my transcripts on the 4th, they were received and processed by the 10th, and verified today-- a process taking about almost 2 weeks!
Hoping that transcripts would get to nursingcas before the 11th was super super stressful, but now knowing that the verification date is what matters, makes everything even more worrying.I hope there is some kind of leeway with this deadline or a grace period due to the delay... Any info would help, thank you guys! Good luck to us all!

hi subarualex,
There used to be a point system up on the SON's website, however, they took it down. I believe they changed it up this application cycle but have no info regarding those changes.
However, the components that do make up your overall score are indeed your overall GPA, prereq GPA, your National Percentile Rank in just the Reading and Grammar section of the TEAS (however, you do need to be above the 40th percentile in all subjects to qualify for points in general), and volunteer/work experience.
As for submitting verification of your volunteer work, yes you can still submit it to nursingcas, however it will be considered late by the SON. All documents should have been submitted by the 11th.
When I was filling out the nursingcas app I was also a bit confused too since what was on app sort of contradicted the SON. But basically, nursingcas is a generic application system that makes it easier for students to apply to various nursing programs offered by different schools. They have their own guidelines/restrictions/polices, such as the one you mentioned regarding being able to add documents after submitting. However, despite this policy, the SON has their own separate program policy regarding deadlines, which is having all the required documents submitted by the Jan 11. I hope this helps! And good luck to you!

hello again everyone,
I was able to contact the nursing department, and they said as long as we uploaded our unofficial transcripts, it is okay for our official transcripts to be a little late with nursingcas!!!

Omg! That’s seriously so great to hear!! I had trouble with NursingCAS and my school sending the transcripts. One of them was verified but the other one is going to be verified around Tuesday according to NursingCAS. I thought they wouldn’t even look at my application because it’s past the 11th. I’m so happy!

Thank you so much! Hopefully I can still get the points even though my volunteer letter of verification was late

Hi everyone, I was accepted into PACSON here at CSULA a year ago. Class of 2021 here. I'd be happy to answer any questions you guys might have. I don't have much memory of the application process since it's been a while, but as for anything else, feel free to ask. Good luck everyone! :)
