Hi all,
I saw the thread for the BSN Basic program, and wanted to start this one. I'm taking the TEAS on 12/20 for the first time (eek!) because I had to take the GREs for my other apps. I saw that the BSN Basic program has a point system. Does the ABSN program have that too? And do we need to sent in verification of volunteer hours too?
Did any of you guys apply to UCLA MECN as well? IF you got into both, which would you go to and why?
I applied to the UCLA MECN program, too. If I were lucky enough to be accepted into both, it would be a great dilemma to have. Both have good NCLEX passage rates. ABSN is faster and less expensive, but MECN has that UCLA name behind it. I believe CSULA also gets students started in clinicals faster than UCLA, although the difference in the length of the programs might make that a moot point. Hopefully a current student can let us know more information about clinical hours at CSULA.
Since the local Cal States dropped their entry-level master's programs, it makes me wonder if the general perception of ELM programs is low among nurses/HR departments.
I don't think anyone could go wrong with either school, but I'd learn towards CSULA for financial reasons. You could graduate faster and be out of work for less time – that's a factor for me, but your mileage may vary.
By the way, did anyone see that the NCLEX passage rates have been updated for 2013/2014 test takers? I hadn't checked it in a while so maybe this is old news, but here is the link:
I've also applied to UCLA's MECN program. I don't think there's much of a difference in time. CSULA takes 5 semesters, so a year and a third, and UCLA takes 2 years but you walk away with a Master's. I think it depends on what you eventually want to do. If you want to specialize in one of the specialties CSULA has to offer then I think CSULA is a better choice. But if you later want to specialize in another area, I think obtaining the master's as soon as possible is better, which would make UCLA the go to. So much to consider. I don't know if one would get us further in our careers or not. Is there a benefit to one more than the other as far as the school's name?
How many people are invited to interview?
Based on previous years, I believe it should be around 50/60 people. Around 50-40% of those applicants get accepted. The interview should be around 30 minutes, and it will be a one-on-one. This is all I know.
Do you know when people will start being invited to an interview?
Did everyone hear back from the CSULA regarding the completion of their application?
I turned my application in early January but still haven't heard from the school if they've processed my application. When I spoke to someone in the school a week and a half ago, she said that I'd get an email confirmation within a week. Just a little worried that my application might have been lost...
Hi,
Yes I turned in my application early January and CSULA e-mailed me on Jan 21 (~2 weeks later) letting me know that they had received it. I sent in my TEAS scores and asked them on Feb 2 if they had received it, but didn't get a response. I'm sure they are VERY busy right now, so I would just be patient.
