CSULA 2015 ABSN Program

Published

Hi all,

I saw the thread for the BSN Basic program, and wanted to start this one. I'm taking the TEAS on 12/20 for the first time (eek!) because I had to take the GREs for my other apps. I saw that the BSN Basic program has a point system. Does the ABSN program have that too? And do we need to sent in verification of volunteer hours too?

Do you guys know the average TEAs score for accepted applicants?

Hey guys! Just thought I would chime in. I am currently in the first year of the program and am available to try and answer questions if you need it. As far as requirements to get in - I would just make sure you put your best efforts into all aspects of the application. If there is one area that is not "perfect", then study as hard as you can to get an amazing score on the TEAS. The test is not super hard if you just pour through the ATI book and do all of the paper and online practice tests. I cannot speak for the rest of my cohort, but my TEAS score was one of the best areas of my application. I can say the program coordinator does seem to focus more on recent accomplishments, than past ones. Also, the program coordinator is very considerate, but also very busy. I know it is so very hard to remain patient, but please try to do so. She gets through the emails, phone calls, and applications as she can. Good luck!!

Does anyone know if we are notified when CSULA receives any application material? What does the admissions timeline look like? If we get an interview is it safe to assume we'll be accepted or wait listed (likely get in)?

Application notification- I say give it a week and email the program coordinator or her assistant. She told me that A LOT of applications come in Jan so they're swamped.

It it seems that we are notified in February for an interview. And later March-April for admittance.

I can tell you from our experience last year - the coordinator's assistant will email you a week or two after the due date to let you know they got your application and if there is anything missing, etc. Then the interview invites will roll out slowly over a few weeks (mine came in about a month after the due date). The interviews will happen over 3-4 weeks time. The coordinator will call you to invite you to join the next cohort no sooner than the timeline says. (I think it is the week of CSULA's spring break). My understanding was that they interview about 2X the number of seats. So interview 60 for 30 seats - so your chance is ~50%!

Hey TLeem, do you know about how many applications they get per application period?

Hey TLeem, do you know about how many applications they get per application period?

We were just discussing this the other day. We do not know for sure, but I think it is around 250-300 applications, maybe less.

I suddenly just felt my chances of acceptance decrease. :( I can't seem to get a hold of the second person who is supposed to write my LOR. Grrrr I hope this doesn't completely ruin my chances.

Yeah :( The LOR was the hardest part for me! My past professor and VP promised to write the letter, but when time came, they just kept ignoring my phone calls and emails. I even went into my old company and talked to my VP face to face, and he said he would send the letter but never did.

I'm not saying your LOR writer is shady, but mine were :/ But also keep in mind that right now is winter break for most of the schools, so that may be why your second writer isn't answering!

It's so stressful

Sorry to hear about your second recommender...my micro professor wrote one letter for me for another school and then completely ignored me when I asked him if he could send the same one to CSULA.:sniff:

Did anyone take the TEAS more than twice? Or take the TEAS twice with less than 3 months in between test dates?

The website says: The test may only be taken a maximum of two times, and there must be at least a three month time period between test taking dates.

I took the TEAS twice last year, 2 months between test dates. I want to take it one last time for CSULB's application. Would CSULA even consider my 2nd score? And if not, then would they consider my score if I took it this month?
