are there any fall 2009 applicants out there?
Hi guys,
I am currently a Child Development Major Right now and debating
whether or not to pursue a double major Health Science at CSUF. If I
pursue the double major with Health Science, will I have a better
advantage to getting in to the Entry Level Masters in Nursing Program?
Or will it not make a difference? I wanted to ask because I
am due to graduate this semester, but just wanted to know if doing a
double major in Health Science would give me step up in being accepted
or any advantage. Thank you for your time.
I had the interview last week. I think they said that the gpa range for the people that were interviewing was from 3.15(?) to above a 4.0. I don't know what colleges give more than 4 points for a class... There were 400 applicants, so with 36 acceptances, that's an acceptance rate of exactly 9 percent. So yeah, that's really competitive.
Also, I have heard different things from different people about whether there will be more interviews. A classmate of mine said that the office staff she spoke to said there might be interviews in April. So there seems to be some confusion about further interviewing.
From my one-on-one interview I don't think that a non-science major hurts your admission chances. In fact, there is no way for them to factor it into their acceptance formula if they actually stick to it. As far as I can tell, the #1 thing is your gpa. I was a social sci major and the interviewer seemed excited about having people with diverse educational backgrounds.
Good luck, hopefully the numbers will go up again next year.

Hi, jordangirl
I think it will all depend on budget that CSUF gets from CA state. Considering that we are in serious recession and that it is harder to raise tax than change constitution in CA, I'm pessimistic about next year. But that's just my opinion.
I think it is really stupid that we are being told that nurses are in serious shortage and that CA has the least # of nurses per residents in the U.S., and yet they turn away eager and qualified people from becoming a nurse. How shortsighted is that?
