Hi Everyone!

I see that there is no thread for the cohort for Spring 2015 for the ABSN Program yet! So this is my official attempt at making a thread for it! Please use this thread as a place for comments, questions and admission decision updates! I actually have been offered conditional acceptance already and would love to meet future classmates! Thanks guys!

Hi lupeo1792,

Since this program is run through the extension office, its protocols are a bit different. This program works with a system of rolling admissions. There are no set admission deadlines. All applications are considered for 12 months, unless they are admitted. Only the Spring cohort is actually in San Marcos. The summer and fall cohorts are in Temecula. You could apply any time for next summer. If you were accepted for this spring, you have the option of deferring and taking a chance you would be admitted again in the summer. There are no guarantees though. They are always looking for the top 50 scores on applications, who accept their offer of admission, AND pass all the background checks. The summer and fall cohorts are easier, usually, by a few points, to get into.

Not all the CSU schools have this type of program. Once a cohort is filled, your application is automatically placed into the hopper for the next cohort. For example, I applied in June after taking the TEAS. They won't look at an application without a TEAS score attached. When I submitted my app, the system said that I was being considered for the fall cohort. I was still finishing my last nursing core course, so I knew I was not really being considered for fall. In July when the fall cohort had filled, the online system automatically showed my app as being considered for spring. I was accepted last week. There will be more accepted going into October, probably, and they have been building this cohort since July. If I were looking for admission for next summer, I would apply now. Depending on the delivery of your transcripts, they might not have everything to evaluate your application until the spring cohort is closed anyway.

i hope this helps. It is a long explaination that there are no real set deadlines in this program at your juncture. Good luck!

Hi everyone, I am hoping to be accepted for Summer or Fall 2015 since I am finishing my Bachelors degree this semester and my last prereq (Public Speaking). I am unsure of when to submit my application since I wont have official transcripts until January. Should I apply in the fall and then send my transcripts or just wait until January when I'll have all of the materials? Also my points do not seem very high, I have 31 points total to my calculation. I only scored an 82% on the TEAS so I am thinking about retaking it to increase my points. What do you all suggest? Can we even retake the TEAS for this school or do they take your first passing score? Thanks in advance!

@payneco

I'm also hoping to get accepted for either Summer 2015 or Fall 2015. I sent in my application in late July. However, I haven't sent in my transcripts yet. I'm waiting on my transcripts from one more school to be sent to me. I inquired about the TEAS exam when I called the school a month ago. Someone from the nursing office informed me that you can send your current TEAS scores and send new scores later if you retake the test. They will just update your file when they get the new scores. I'm graduating this semester too and I can't wait! I can't wait to finally start nursing school ?

Hello Dgap,

Thank you so much for all your information! I'm considering this program as a top choice if I am not accepted to the Spring Nursing program that I applied to, so hopefully I will find out by late October or early November.

One last thing that I am confused about, if I apply for the summer, does that mean that I can defer admissions to the following fall or spring?

Also does anyone have roughly an estimate of the total cost of the program?

I'm attending an informational, but not until next month so I have a ton of unanswered questions.

I'm hoping I'm a competitive applicant. My stats are :

Pre-core GPA: 3.37

Last 60 Units: 3.76

TEAS: 90.7%

Point score of 33

You can retake the Teas up to 3 times for this school, also a 31 point score seems solid!

@lupeo1792

Here's an estimate cost of the program from 2013: CSUSM ABSN Class Sequence & Cost Analysis. Of course, you will have to add Extended Learning fees and consider living expenses, transportation fees, and any other miscellaneous fees.

Dgap pretty much already explained how rolling admissions work. If you applied and were admitted for the summer, you can decline the admissions offer and your application will be rolled over and be considered for fall. You will again be ranked with the next term's applicants so it is not guaranteed that you will be admitted again. If you do get admitted and decline the offer again (or you are not able to make the cut) for fall, your application will be rolled over for spring.

@m00nisse

Thank you! I hadn't come across that, the cost isn't bad at all! Cost about the same as many other CSUs

I noticed the first semester is only 3 general classes (not necessarily nursing classes)

Do any of you know if that means the courses can be taken like twice a week?

I live about an hour and 45 minutes away from Temecula and San Marcos and was wondering if I could just commute the first semester and wait to move in the fall if I were to be admitted in the summer .

Also does this ABSN program include weekend courses? I know CSUN does and so does Mount St Marys

That information sheet seems outdated. The fees have increased from $420 to $450 for lecture credit and from $535 to $575 for clinical credit according to the ABSN website. The informational video now has the cost pegged at about $40,000.

Hey all!

I just got my conditional acceptance to the 2015 Spring Cohort. I guess there is still hope for those who haven't heard! How can I find the FB page?

Congratulations Smcartier! I'm not the administrator, but I think I can add you to the group. Friend me on Facebook (Dyana Penner) and I will try to make it happen. If I can't, I will notify the administrator.

Hey @smcartier congrats!! When did you apply??? I've been waiting a long time and still haven't even gotten my eval......I called after 4 weeks of waiting and they misplaced all of my stuff, so had to start over. UGH!!

Thanks @Dgap I will look for you and add ya! @marmar13 I applied like early August. I was scared too because it had been so long, and then I finally got my eval Friday and got my conditional acceptance the following Monday. Oh my gosh that sounds so frustrating!! I think they may be a bit disorganized, or busy? They sent me my conditional acceptance the 16th but it said the deadline to accept was the 12th? haha Hopefully you hear soon!
