CSU Los Angeles School of Nursing (CSULA Fall 2011)

Published

How many here has applied for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at CSULA?

I know it is a little bit early to talk about this, but I just submitted all of my grades, TEAS scores (ATI sends them to CSULA SON for you), and notification of health care work experience (dental assistant) from an employer.

It has been a long and anxious wait till April/May for letters of acceptance to come in, so I hope this thread can help everyone who is dealing with the same anxiety and stress that we are all dealing with.

So If anyone would like to share their overall "points" score, or questions regarding pre-reqs TEAS etc. I would be alright to share all of you mine, and answer some questions that I might know.

Thanks and godspeed everyone!

oh good. how? teas and working in healthcare?

if so, volunteering my not be an option. i guess this summer will be job hunting.

didn't you say they rank of ethnicity? i hope not lol

me too. They never admitted that they did, because that would go against the 14th amendment. lol

but what I see is a trend of equal distribution of ethnicities in every cohort. So if a predominant ethnicity applies, there would only be the same ammount of people selected as another counterpart ethnicity to avoid unequal distribution.

Hmm. Ya, when you find out the cut off points for fall 2011 admittance please let me know. My goal would be to get 25+ points but I mean, if I get one B that screws me up. This whole competition thing is horrible.

Finals week at my school is June 13-17 I don't know if admissions will have grades by June 22nd

that's correct. They didn't have an exact number of students admitted till after the ranking process. It is determined by the number of applicants applying and the number eligible for admission (competitive GPAs vs non competitive GPAs and whether or not the TEAS was submitted on time.)

I heard that quite a few of my friends received letters of disqualification or denial a week or two ago. So it is showing that they are ranking as we speak.

If you didn't get a letter, you have survived the first phase of the application process.

only 2 weeks left (march 23rd) til the ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE COMMENCES FINAL RANKING PROCESS.

what do u mean competitive GPA? i thought as long as you meet the requirement you're good. i have a 3.2 cum GPA with a 3.67 prereq gpa. So am are my GPAs considered "competitive"?

I recently posted that i got a letter of disqualification because they "didn't receive" my TEAS scores. I called and showed proof so Monica said that i'm fine and still qualified. But the letter didnt metion anything about a problem with my GPA, so I should be fine right?

Are you saying we should know if we're accepted in two weeks or that they'll starting picking in two weeks?

yeah you should be fine you have an 11 of 15 points for GPA.

I'm just saying, people who weren't selected in my cohort had pre req GPA that was below a 3.0. that's how they start the first phase of ranking. people with a relatively low GPA get denied first (which totaled to only a 4 of 15 points in the GPA category), or very low application scores (20 or below) get denied as well, as the committee works "from the outside in" in order to "clean up" the applicant pool.

once that is done, the committee then looks for the most competitive grades in that pool, and finds out from the department how much people they can accept in their program and work from there.

that process will begin no later, (if not done already), in two weeks March 23rd. once that is finished, it might take days to rank, the comittee then sends the letters which will take about 10 business days to receive in your mail box.

it makes sense because last year, the final ranking was in late march early april and acceptance letters were received at around mid april.

so there you go, story of our lives :)

ooh okay phew well thanks! you scared me for little bit right there because i think my cum GPA is my weak point. Every time I check my mail, my heart stops.

CSULA is a great school, I graduated from there myself (yes, I may be fairly biased). When I myself was waiting for a slot in the nursing program, there were 800 applicants, 50 chosen for the spring cohort, and 10 dropped within the first week (too late for others to take their spots - sadly :() Granted, the CSU system is on a budget crisis, and it may be an even smaller class.. but don't lose hope. If it's meant to be it will be. Worrying all day & night won't make your chances increase. So breathe a little everyone, and try to relax a bit :nurse:

I wish you all the best! :yeah: I'll cross my fingers for all you amazing nurses to be!

thanks nursejaneRN!

I'll keep on relaxing.

the decision is real soon, so thank you for supporting us!

I had a quick question, I made it through the first phase, and emailed Monica if she needs any additional documentations to carry my application forward. So, she replied back saying the department will contact me if any documents are needed. However, I stated that I volunteered and worked as a Pharmacy Technician for work, do I need to give a letter asap?

No harm in having everything prepared. I haven't had any experience with that type of situation, so you'll have to talk to Monica. It's been years since I've gone through that process, I'm sorry :sniff:
