CSU Los Angeles School of Nursing (CSULA Fall 2011)

How many here has applied for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at CSULA?

I know it is a little bit early to talk about this, but I just submitted all of my grades, TEAS scores (ATI sends them to CSULA SON for you), and notification of health care work experience (dental assistant) from an employer.

It has been a long and anxious wait till April/May for letters of acceptance to come in, so I hope this thread can help everyone who is dealing with the same anxiety and stress that we are all dealing with.

So If anyone would like to share their overall "points" score, or questions regarding pre-reqs TEAS etc. I would be alright to share all of you mine, and answer some questions that I might know.

Thanks and godspeed everyone!

oh alright.

thanks for the clarification. Well you should be good.

Good luck for 2012. I'll keep you updated with the results for 2011 :D

Yes good luck and keep me posted! :)

I got into CSULA for Fall 2011, however, like everyone else, I do not know yet if I am accepted for the BSN program there. I do not know what to do if I don't get into the nursing program. I just got a rejection letter from CSU Long Beach today, and now i'm panicking over what will happen. Why should I go to CSULA if I do not get into nursing? What should I do if that happens?

I notice applicants in recent years have heard decisions from CalStates nursing programs in April mostly. I have also applied for four other CalStates and three RN programs. The RN programs seem to be my only chance due to my cumulative GPA (VERY LOW). I am so afraid of not being in a program this fall. Please everyone post your 2011 application/admission/rejection experiences. I am dying to hear some reconsideration letter advice. This is a rant/plea to vent and learn more.

What ADN programs did you apply for?

Since I will be done enough to apply to ADN programs after this current semester, I am going to test my luck and apply to like 2-3 ADN programs, like PCC and Rio Hondo. I am kinda just doing it as a test to see if I can get in. If I get in then I will get my ADN& do a RN-BSN bridge later, if not then I will definitely step it up when applying to BSN programs later this year.

Good luck!

oh and if I may ask, what was your stats?

Hello all,

I apologize in advance for repeating any previously answered questions as I am late joining this discussion, but I was perplexed by your calculations for determining the number of "points" you would receive from the CSULA SON given your GPA, TEAS test scores and health care experience. How did you determine your scores?

I reside in Greater Boston so am unfamiliar with this system. I admit it's a bit refreshing to figure out on my own where I stand. I took the TEAS through a community college in Rhode Island (the testing centers in Massachuetts were inaccessible via public transit) so I don't know if my scores look the same as everyone else (though I assume they do because it's standardized!). I received percentages for each section, but I don't remember number scales like the ones you have been presenting. For anyone who can decipher/help me calculate my CSULA SON score, here are my specs:

TEAS English - 89%

TEAS Reading - 90%

TEAS Math - 77.8%

TEAS Science - 76.7%

TEAS Overall Score - 84.1%

GPA Overall - 3.0

GPA pre-req - ~ 3.0

Online Medical Terminology Course - 4.0

Experience

3 years as an executive secretary at a major Boston hospital

1 year volunteering as interpreter for Spanish speaking patients at free clinic

1 year as copy editor for Spanish web pages of the Young Women's Health center at another major Boston hospital

I was told that I needed to fill out a financial aid form for the Graduate Office at CSULA. However, I feel that it's asked of most applicants and is not something that determines my standing in the SON.

Thank you in advance!

it all depends.

What TEAS test did you take?

CSULA takes version 4.0, so if you took version 4.0, then that test is valid for admission.

for Prerequisite GPA, you would get 2 out of 10 points (3.0-3.19)

cummulative GPA you would get 2 out of 5 points (3.0-3.19)

health care Experience you would get 3 out of 3 points (the most you can get for working)

if you took the TEAS 4.0, CSULA SON gives points for reading and english categories as long as you are above the 40th percentile for all categories. If it isn't then your test will not be valid for review.

Since you were above the 40th percentile on all categories, that test, if it is version 4.0, is eligible for review.

thus, since you have an 89% in english, you'll get 4 out of 6 points (80-89; 6 points being 100 percentile) and 5 of 6 points for reading (90-99).

thus, you add up all of the stats, you have 16 points for CSULA SON.

it all depends...

Yes, it was verion 4.0.

Ouch! Not a very sexy score! I guess I'll know the truth in April!

did you calculate the TEAS math and sciences scores? 16 points is real low....

I would honestly stay OUT of CA if your applying to nursing school. Maybe stay in the Massachusetts or RI area...

I may sound harsh but I just want to warn you

I believe that we not only have a budget crisis going on but our state is vastly over populated (especially socal or the LA area) and therefore more people=more people wanting to become nurses.

Therefore it is HIGHLY competitive with people even with 4.0's not getting in.

That is just my advice. If I had a choice I would go to school out of state, to a less populated area that will take maybe lower stats, if my grades were to drop or whatever.

But I do not have that option.

I hope I don't sound discouraging...

Good Luck

if you are still interested in how I came up with all of the points,

here is the application form

yeah, we'll find out in mid april.

GodSpeed.

did you calculate the TEAS math and sciences scores? 16 points is real low....

I couldn't since CSULA SON only gives points for reading and english scores.

Wait they only except version 4.0??

I'm freaking out now. I sent them the score for the regular version V.

when I sent her the email that I was talking about she didn't mention any problems?
