How many here has applied for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at CSULA?
I know it is a little bit early to talk about this, but I just submitted all of my grades, TEAS scores (ATI sends them to CSULA SON for you), and notification of health care work experience (dental assistant) from an employer.
It has been a long and anxious wait till April/May for letters of acceptance to come in, so I hope this thread can help everyone who is dealing with the same anxiety and stress that we are all dealing with.
So If anyone would like to share their overall "points" score, or questions regarding pre-reqs TEAS etc. I would be alright to share all of you mine, and answer some questions that I might know.
Thanks and godspeed everyone!
not really. but it can be instrumental. Previous Health Care experience offers 1 more point more than volunteer (3 points vs. 2 points volunteer). that extra point could help someone who can't raise their overall GPA or compensate for a low TEAS score.
But I know of a good amount of people who got in with volunteer since all of their GPA and TEAS were good.
aw really?
That's great! I wish you the best of luck!
How is the application process over there?
I have my CNA license but i dont use it because Im a server and make more money.
I can't fit in volunteering with such hectic scheduling coming up and I need to work to save up so i dont have to work during NS.
if my GPA is awesome and my teas score is awesome, I won't need the volunteer right?
have you ever worked as a CNA before?
As long as you worked as a CNA before, you can get credit (3 points)
volunteering and previous health care experience are always a plus, as I haven't met anyone yet who got in the program without them.
But hypothetically, if you have a GPA of 3.8-4.0 both pre req and overall, along with 90's on the TEAS for reading and english you should have a total score of 25 am I right?
if you have that score, it's good.
The cut off last year was a 24, the nursing program admitting 50 students. a few people with 23's got in by showing well-rounded ness like volunteer, health care experience, and or letters of rec.
I don't have an answer in whether you should or shouldn't volunteer or find CNA work, because It does get more competitive every year, and it seems to me, that they look at ALL criteria (TEAS, GPA, Volunteer) before making their decision.
No, there is no "time criteria" that would consider you as a "previous health care employee." As long as you request a letter from your employer indicating that you are working, or had previously worked at their clinic or hospital, that would give you the credit.
However, you should find a CNA position as soon as possible since the deadline to indicate previous health care experience or volunteer experience is due on March 23rd 2011 at the CSULA SON Advisement Office.
I got into CSULA for Fall 2011, however, like everyone else, I do not know yet if I am accepted for the BSN program there. I do not know what to do if I don't get into the nursing program. I just got a rejection letter from CSU Long Beach today, and now i'm panicking over what will happen. Why should I go to CSULA if I do not get into nursing? What should I do if that happens?
I notice applicants in recent years have heard decisions from CalStates nursing programs in April mostly. I have also applied for four other CalStates and three RN programs. The RN programs seem to be my only chance due to my cumulative GPA (VERY LOW). I am so afraid of not being in a program this fall. Please everyone post your 2011 application/admission/rejection experiences. I am dying to hear some reconsideration letter advice. This is a rant/plea to vent and learn more.
