CSN Spring 2012 question

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

I'll be a new student to CSN this upcoming semester (Spring 2011) and hoping to complete all the prereqs for the RN program before the deadline (Sept. 1, 2011). The prerequisite courses are:

BIOL 189* Fundamentals of Life Science 4 Science (4 credits)

BIOL 223 Anatomy & Physiology I (4 credits)

ENG 101** Composition I (3 credits)

MATH 100B or Math 120 (or higher) except Math 122 &123 (3 credits)

PSY 101 General Psychology (3 credits)

I am really worried about being able to complete the prereq's in the amount of time I have before the deadline. I was thinking of taking two or three in the Spring 2011 semester and the remaining prereqs in the Summer 2011 semester. My only concern with that is if the courses will be available in the Summer. If there is no way around doing all five prereq courses in the Spring, is this a reachable goal?I'm calling the office tomorrow but I am interested in hearing some answers from here, and perhaps any advice as well.

Thanks in advance!

---- is awesome for lab. Him, -----, and ------ are probably the top 3 in my opinion.

I totally agree! Have had 2 out of the 3.

Hmm. I wonder why the names were edited. Is there some rule saying we're not allowed to use professor names?

If not, they are ----, -----, ------.

If so, they will be edited again and you can send me a private message if the names really mean that much to you.

From the Terms of Service:

"While it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. It is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. Your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. While this site is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. Gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. Please do not give out personal information about others. Do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs."

They allow trading. Wait till classes start and they allow trading online at the CSN online campus. A lot of people will start sending out mass emails for trading labs and sometimes lectures

I too am hoping for a Spring 2012 enrollment. I actually was going to pursue UNR's BSN program for Speing, but due to logistics and financial aid I am going to shoot for CSN & do UNR's RN/BSN program afterwards. This semester I am taking 23 credits, 7 classes, at 3 schools. I also have a 4 & 1 year old kids at home 24/7. I am not working, which has been a blessing/sacrifice... But I AM doing it!!! I want this so bad!!! I plan to attend NSC all summer (probably will try to take 15 credits) & will PRAY I can get my application and grades processed by 9/1!!! I wish you luck, don't stress-you are only 19.... But let me know if we will both be applying for Spring because I'd love to meet you at orientation ;) we need at least 27 points but 28+ to guarantee us a spot! Good luck my possibly future classmate!

Hey! Im applying this summer for Spr 12 with 31pts! so i guess i will be seeing you at orientation huh?

Are you aware of the demand of the biology classes alone? From the posts I have just read, nobody is even close to realistic.

YES Nevada State is EASIER! It is not as hard, people actually get A's from that school in a 6 or 8 week accelerated course. People that posted that they are not aware of it being easier, perhaps the subject was more interesting? or, they had a good instructor? Why do they not want to admit they took the easier A road? Who knows. They did. NSC doesn't compare to the workload or demand of CSN. Does that make it less? Nope I don't think so.

Is this possible at CSN with the workload that other students are suggesting? Nope. Simple as that. Nope. No way, not if you expect to get good grades. And by good grades I mean pre requisites:

Biol 189 and A&P 223-- no less than B

Psychology, Math, and English-- an A

Cumulative GPA for these 5 classes goal? 3.25-3.50- minimum!

Nothing less than that for the points. The general education classes must be done concurrently

A&P 224 = 10points

Micro Biol = 5 points

Communications = 5 points

Sociology and History or Poly Sci = 1 point each

Gen Ed total = 22 points

Current Medical certification = 1 point

Verified current experience = 1 point

Teas exam score = up to 6 points

I am in the last semester at CSN nursing program and if I could do it all over again with out financial concern? I would go to NSC. Simple. Keep your options open- CSN- they chew you up and spit out 50% of all entered students in the first semester alone. Why am I telling you this? I wish someone had told me...

I took Bio 224, Statistics, and Chem 110 @ NSC and found them to be way easier than my Algebra and Biology classes at CSN. Even so, I still learned a lot. The class size is significantly smaller and I found the professors to be able to be more hands on because of it.

I definitely do not see how taking 23 credits at once (and doing well) is possible, especially with two small children. I do not have children and do not work -- 16 credits of pre-reqs was more than enough to occupy my time last semester. It's nice to see that you are motivated but I just don't know if that course load is physiologically possible. You will burn out quick.

I am finishing up my 1st semester of the RN program at CSN in a couple of weeks. It has gone by surprisingly fast! Congrats to the last semester student that posted. It seems that you managed to survive despite all that chewing up and spitting out. =o) I plan to do the RN-BSN at NSC (if we stay in Vegas) after I graduate from CSN.

Cool update Cupcake!

How's the 1st semester going for you right now? Hopefully I am allowed to get my chance at it.

I'm actually in my 2nd semester now. This is only week 2 but so far so good! Definitely more interesting than first semester in my opinion.
