CRNE October 2010

Published

Hello every1,

I am going to take CRNE in October 2010. I need your tips and suggestions. I am registered with CARNA (Alberta board of Nursing) but going to take my exam in Toronto. I guess CRNE is standardized exam and is same all over Canada. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you

Hi there everyone, I just wrote the CRNA exam on Wednesday the 6th of October 2010. I found it very difficult and I am wondering if it was just me or did anyone else found it hard too??

I am a "mature" student from another country, and completed the re-entry course for previous RN's. I have been working as a grad nurse and absolutely love the job. I am terrified that I did'nt pass. I found that I had to rush through the questions to finish and all the advise about reading the question through really well and then the answers, all went out the window, because there was not enough time to read the question more than once and if you spend too much time on a question, you got behind real quick.

Would appreciate it if others feeling like me can let me know. Thanks

I wrote the exam on October 6th 2010 as well and I also found it to be hard. When they said "you have 2 hrs remaining", I was on question 87. I had to rush through the entire exam, finishing with only 8 mins left to recheck my answers which was not sufficient. The practice materials from CNA was way different than the exam we wrote. I found that the questions were loaded with so much information. As it stands right now, I am not sure as to how I did. It could have gone well or bad. We just have to hope for the best and see what the outcome will be in 6 weeks. I pray that there will be light that the end of the tunnel. Good luck everyone!

Hello Nyarko, i just wrote the CRNE on October 6th and i agree with you that the exam was hard. It was more stricky than hard i would say. However, we have given out best and we just need to keep our fingers crossed while praying and hoping for the best. Good luck to everyone who wrote. I know how difficult it can be preparing for this exam coz there are too many contradicting infos in the study guides we have. To make matters worse, it looks like there were about 20 sample questions in the exam. what if the 20 are the ones u get right? It's really a difficult and long waiting period.

Hi there,

How do you know its 20 sample questions??? thats quite a bit. Thanks.

Hi, from this website. http://crneprep.blogspot.com/2010/03/june-2010-crne.html

Here's the info they have:

As of June 2010, the CRNE will be based on revised competencies. With this the layout and format of the exam will change somewhat.

"Canadian nurses and regulatory bodies have identified148 competencies to be measured during the 2010-15 examination cycle. These competencies have been organized into a framework that reflects a primary health-care model. They are grouped under the categories of: Professional Practice (28 competencies); Nurse-Client Partnership (14 competencies); Health and Wellness (27 competencies); and Changes in Health (79competencies)" (CRNE Bulletin, No. 13, June 2009).

The exam will consist of 180-200 multiple choice questions, plus about 20 experimental questions. These questions will be independent and case based. These competencies are

  1. Professional Practice 14-24%
  2. Nurse Client Parternship 19%
  3. Nursing Practgice: Heatlh & Wellness 21-31%
  4. Changes in Heatlh 40-50% As of June 2010, the CRNE wil be based on revised competencies. With this the layout and format of the exam will change somewhat.

I am a nurse from another country and i have to say that this exam was nothing like the exam I wrote. the exam really was difficult, and moreover, in my opinion, it was'nt an exam for nurses, more like social workers..... i don't understand the purpose of this questions??? where is the medical questions that i'm suppose to know as a nurse??? all social workers questions.

anyway, just wanted to say that it was a hard exam, and i understand how you feel....

Hi everyone

A quick question for those of you who wrote the exam: what would be a good study source for community part of the exam? As I read through your posts I realize most of us struggling with that part of exam so I'm trying to well prepare myself for it.

I appreciate any comments.

Hi there,

Just wondering what time does the test starts?

Is the exam 4hours straight for 200 questions?

I'd appreciate any feedbacks...

Thanks.

Usually starts approx 08.30 and you can have breaks to the rest room however it will be supervised. No breaks otherwise and if you have finished and I think it is one and half hours or more since the exam has started you can leave otherwise you finish when the exam finishes

The start time may be individualized to the location of the testing centre. This information will be included in your approval to test notification.

The exam was 4hrs straight with 200 questions. You had to be at the exam location at 8:30 and started at 8am.
