CRNE October 2010

Published

Hello every1,

I am going to take CRNE in October 2010. I need your tips and suggestions. I am registered with CARNA (Alberta board of Nursing) but going to take my exam in Toronto. I guess CRNE is standardized exam and is same all over Canada. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you

You know I no longer trust the CNO anymore, they always telling unrealistic things, my friend received her results late in July and still managed to register for October past the deadline, we are in the same boat waiting for results now. Never register for the June exam, lots of students write during that time and its hard. I will rather wait for October 2011 and forget about June.:lol2:

I think so many people that wrote the June exam, found it easier than the October exam. That could be a wrong assumption though.

I wrote the last exam and the cut off was 61%, that means you needed to get 121 questions right out of the 200 questions. I just hope they temper justice with mercy this time around. lol.

Keep believing.

I have alot of friends who wrote in June and they say it is the hardest of the three and too many people write during that time. As for the cut off for june, they went below sixty coz too many people didn't make it. The cut of was 121 out of 208. They had 208 questions and not 200. So I learned. I wish everyone the best. I also wonder who'll open my envelop for me.

Some of the people who wrote in June may have found it easier in October coz it was their second time and they may have been familiar with the way the questions are asked and surely more prepared too.

I wrote for the second time, i still had some difficulties with the exam even though I was more relaxed than the first time. ANXIETY was less lol.

Hmmm I thought the October one was far much better than the June one. June exam stressed me till I got my results in July and after I recovered and continued my journey. I feel better this time even though I dont know the outcome.

My fingers are crossed for the best.:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe

yeah i wrote the june one too and that was a crazy exam. then i wrote the oct one i found it is at least 30% easier compared to June, personally thinking. i didnt even finish the june one and i finished the oct one 30 mintues earlier and got check my answers. I actually corrected three questions! 3 extra points! yay~! i found when i wrote the oct it was 80% flawless, i felt no big surprise at all, of course there are tricky questions but i found i have a confidence of a getting a 75% on the oct exam!

now i have two job interviews. one is this friday and another one, I told HR we could do an interview once i receive my result since they are not in a hurry to hire me! Both are full time 0.8 positions!

finger crossed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wrote the october exam for the second time too and found it a bit easier than the june exam. However i still feel a bit tricked by some of the questions and not too confident...I'm scared to death and the anxiety is only increasing!!! So...*fingers crossed* PLEASE let the passing mark be at its lowest!!!

The june exam was indeed 208 questions but it was not out of 208. there were 8 experimental questions that do not count towards our mark so it was actually out of 200. with that said this exam isn't out of 200 either...not sure how many experimental questions are on this one...

October 2010 was my second time writing the CRNE, I found the October one a little bit better. Probably due to much less anxiety about what to expect. The June exam I did not even have a chance to finish, I left 15 questions out. I have so much anxiety about receiving the results in the mail. I am hoping we hear by next Friday, but I am highly doubting the CNO will be on the ball. I wanna wish everyone good luck! This is a stressful time and it is good to know that other people are going through this as well.

2010 June CRNE fail rate is 42%, which means out of 100 students, 42 failed, 58 passed.

The exam was 121/191, i sort this out because i looked at the piece of paper which shows maximum points of each competency. I added them all together it was 191. The passing of June is 63%。

Hi Whitebunny, thank you for the breakdown. There has been too many different infos about the cut off for the June exam. Finally it's difficult to know which one is true. I was told by someone that he failed by 1 mark and that when he counted everything, it was on 208 and the percentage pass was 58%. If your calculation is correct, there4 there were 17 sample questions and I wonder how many we had on the October exam.

All the best and I'm sure you'll make it this time with flying colours. Best of luck.

WanYeso, your friend's math is correct... IF all 208 questions were counted. 121/208 = 58.17%.

There are always sample questions, it's how CNA prepares different versions of the exam. They use the data from candidate responses to the sample questions to determine how appropriately they're worded and how well they capture knowledge.

Standard passing scores range from 59% to 68% depending on the difficulty of the exam.

however, somewhere i read that experimental questions do not count for marks. Marks are given depending on the difficulty of the questions. If a question is just knowledge, it might 1 point; if a question is critical thinking, it might be 1.5 point...
