CRNE October 2010

Hello every1,

I am going to take CRNE in October 2010. I need your tips and suggestions. I am registered with CARNA (Alberta board of Nursing) but going to take my exam in Toronto. I guess CRNE is standardized exam and is same all over Canada. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you

Same exam all over Canada however there are 3 different versions administered each year. For example, in a room where students are writing the exam, the person sitting next to you can have exam A and you may have exam B. All the same questions just in a different order.

Best advice: Pay close attention to what the question is asking. For example, it may ask what is the "most important" or "first priority." Don't get them confused...what you do first may not always be whats the most important thing to assess/do. ;)

I used the Mosby's book to study and found it really helpful. Be careful when you transfer your answers over to the scantron sheet, especially if you skip over a question. One girl that wrote with us made that mistake early on (skipped #5 but put the #6 answer in its place). It took her until the very end before she realized her mistake; they gave her a new bubble sheet but she was pressed for time trying to re-do the entire sheet. Be prepared to take the full time allowed to finish. Don't get stuck on a question, move on and come back to it if you have time. Better to do that than waste your time trying to figure it out and not have time to finish. Take a good lunch break! Don't try to cram studying into your break. Eat a good lunch and go get some fresh air. Don't discuss your answers with the other test takers. It's too late to make changes and you will only worry about the ones you got wrong.

Thank you so much.....

Moved to the Canadian forum where there is much already written on the CRNE

Good luck

The exam is now 4 hrs and around 200 questions. The same all over Canada.

I just passed June exam.

I feel it is very important to time yourself when you practise, and also I found Mosby's review book is useful, especially the questions at the end of each chapter. When I used this book, I always do the questions first and check the answer. The last thing is to read the entire chapter because there is too much content to memorize and it is impossible to know all of them.

Good luck!

Is this the write book? I was given two different answers and want the right one that you guys and gals found the most useful.

Saxton, D., Marshall-Henty, J., Vernon, P., & Bradshaw, J. Mosby’s Canadian Comprehensive Review of Nursing Text & Your Guide to Short Answer Questions on the CRNE Package (2nd ed.). Toronto, Canada: Mosby
